Another weekend, more great racing headed your way at the bestbet at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Loads of talent will be gracing the track with a eye out for the lead and the win. We have a good mix of sprint and distance races featuring the best greyhounds at the racetrack. So come along for the ride and catch some world class greyhounds racing in the process.
Up first is Friday evening and the 7th, 10th, 11th, and 15th races on the card.
Secret Whisper might be new to the racetrack, but she is getting better in every start and has started to look dominate. Here in the 7th race she might not be in the lead early, that is reserved for the posted up duo of breaking ability that is Wild Boy Andy and Kiowa Adara Art, but she will take advantage of the post and make the most of her stretch run. Another rail posted, and running, streaker must be considered a threat as well. Gs Comet is as fast as he wants to be late and could upset this field if he is in the conversation with the leaders early on. (3-7-2-8)
All-American time in the 10th race on the card as Gs Uncle Henry vies for yet another victory at the Orange Park Kennel Club. His last race was win #60 in his young career and tonight that total grows. He is not in easy, loads of talent is around him, but he steals enough to get it done. Making it interesting late will be the veteran Kiowa Jill Vik, who is looking to rebound after a tough trip. M’s Free Mason should break from a good post and be a threat throughout, and you can never count out Miss Kate from a rail post position. (5-8-3-1)
Post might be enough to figure out who is going to win this barnburner in race 11. Loads of early speed abound here and who makes the front at the get go, might just be the one to lead all the way to the wire. Kiowa Jill Smile has been streaking again as of late and the red box is her favorite place to start from. Even without the lead she can get it done from just off the pace, so this double threat should get it done here. Hardheaded Dude likes the rail and is close enough here to threaten. He is good early and short late, so look for a game trip. Dontfoolmetwice has been breaking well and stalking throughout recently and that trend continues on tonight, and let’s not forget the closer. Lk’s Wilder Side will be coming from off the pace to challenge late again here. (1-3-6-2)
Race 15 is a tough one! Any greyhound here could steal the win if everything were to go their way, but only one gets to claim the crown. Posted up Clever Is Crazy looks like the one to beat for me. She loves the rail and will be close enough early to not be denied at the finish line. Her late kick is her best attribute and she will need it in this one. Speaking of closing speed, Gs Cosmo can some on with the best of them and is also posted well in this effort. At the wire, he will challenge for the win. Deanos Liz is the early speed portion of this race. She will be out in front till the stretch, and might even have a chance to win if there is trouble behind her here. Kiowa Jill Boom gets the best of the rest nod with back to back winning efforts, from off the pace, to return to grade A. (1-2-8-3)
Gearing up for a double header on Saturday, the matinee races we will look at are the 7th, 9th, 11th, and 15th races on the card.
Time for the alarm clock to go off in race 7 on the card. Lk’s All In has been asleep way to long and it’s time for a wake up! This solid dropper is way better than this field and she is going to prove it today. The main challenge behind her should come from the inside part of the racetrack. Mo’s Innocent has should some signs of breaking and contending as of late, as well as, Mrl Killing Time. Time has the late speed needed to make a charge for the win in the stretch and don’t overlook Tipsy Marcus W in this race either. He loves the rail and won his last effort from the red post position. If he gets loose early, he could be upset minded again. (7-3-2-1)
Back on the horse in the 9th race as Aj Smog Runner is starting figure out the right route back to grade A. He looked exceptional well in his last race where he went to the front and won, but today he might have to come from off the pace to catch, the speedster Atascocita Trina, to get the job done. The near rail post helps and he should find a way. Bob’s Penski is down a grade here and always performs in grade B and watch out for Sweet Amber on the rail. She is a solid drop and has enough late speed to be a threat at the finish line today. (3-6-8-1)
I’m stepping out on a bit of a limb in the 11th race, but it is a calculated one. Breezes Place is not always up to the challenge, but recently she has started to run better and from a great rail post, she has what it takes to win this race. She is going to have to put up a huge effort though as she will be coming from off the pace to get it done. The early lead is reserved for Ww’s I Girl. She has found her break again and has posted up back to back winning trips. She is short late though and can be caught on the front end. Lk’s Ambitious is always around in her races and has not missed the money mark in 6 straight trips in grade A, and the every chasing Chasmo’s Earl could get a piece of this pie as well, that is if he can get out of the starting box on this occasion. (2-8-7-5)
Now is the time for Snj Ginger. This former stakes competitor is rested and ready to fire in this effort. She is down a grade and is posted up well on the outside part of the racetrack. She is around other breakers and that should get her ready to fire at the start of this effort. Time for her to show the world again that she is not done, not yet. Rotation should be the favorite in this effort. He is a posted up solid drop that can get it done from the lead, or from off the pace. If he comes to run, the race could be for place. Ww’s Tea Time is a nice looking puppy that should be around the pace throughout in this effort, and Rj’s Gravedigger may use all the early speed to see the lead and force everyone to come and get him if they want to post up a victory. (8-2-5-7)
The fun continues on Saturday as we head into the evening performance and the 7th, 9th, 11th, and 15th races.
Nice to see a greyhound returning with such determination. Fire Frost has really stepped up her game as of late with 2 wins in 4 starts and 4 quinielas in her last 6 trips. She has been breaking close and getting by late and that is just what should happen in this effort. She will have to be on her game though as several others will be looking to take her down. M’s Free Draw finally gets back outside and his break will return. He could be untouched to the front end and the one to catch at the wire. Upstart Br’s Tsunami also has to be considered after some really impressive runs in his last couple of starts. Lk’s Maverick can’t be overlooked either. With all that closing ability, he can overcome any early trouble and still have a shot to get home first in this effort. Breakers, chasers, and closers, this race is going to be exciting from start to finish. (3-8-5-4)
Race 9 might be a grade B event over the 660 yard course, but with 3 solid droppers it is much more competitive than that. Diamond Tears is a strong closer from DQ that is much better than her lines show. She is posted up well inside here and needs to come out better in this effort to get things done late. If she does, she could dominate this field. Dizzy Daisy is a better breaker and might see the front end at the start of this effort. She is short late though and could prove that way again tonight. If she clears enough lengths early, she might be able to survive with the win. Lk’s Merrel might be the biggest question mark in the field. He is a solid dropper that gets the one box. This ultra closer and gain on anyone, and every once in a while, he can go to the front end and destroy fields of greyhounds. We just never know when that is going to happen. Tonight might be the night. Rounding out the super, newcomer Se’s Tali Tyler. Forget the last race and look at the 5 previous in the trifecta efforts. Closing is no problem and it should be enough for him to get into the cash. (3-4-1-7)
Time to start off a new streak in race 11. J’s Robin saw her 8 race win streak snapped last time out as she ran into trouble twice and just couldn’t quite get up late for the win. Here she is in a better post and should clear early on. Once close, this race is over! Gs Jock is back in grade A after a strong effort in his last race. He needs to break again if he wants to stay in contention for a shot at the win tonight. Sobe Vinnie and Mkl Marly Carly are the early speeders in this race, and if the mood suits them, either could be in early command. Both greyhounds are shot late and both can be caught from behind and that is what is going to happen in this effort. These solid grade A competitors will push the pace, but will be no match for Robin’s all out speed in the stretch. (8-5-7-2)
Back to 660 yards for the 15th race and let’s go with a greyhound that has never run 660 before. Lk’s Instigator is a monster closer over 550 and can break on occasion too. Several of his siblings have gone the route and Lashmet is known for greyhounds that can close. This solid grade A will have no trouble over 660 and could lead this race from start to finish. This will not be a walk away win though, loads of up front early talent lurk here and could take home the win. Ww’s Untwisted just missed in her last effort and could lead early again here. Slick has taken to the racetrack and has been a force throughout in almost all of his efforts. This one box could put him over the edge for the win. Santa’s Jacelyn has explosive early speed and might be able to wire the field on the lead if she see the front end. She has been short late though at it could cost her again tonight. (6-5-1-7)
Capping off the weekend, Sunday matinee comes your way and the feature races at the 7th, 9th, 11th, and 15th on the card.
Speed could be the key to success in the 7th race as there is loads of it on display. The real question is, will the speed hold to the wire or not? NOT! LOL! Happy Hour Hero is a solid grade A competitor that has some early speed of his own, and even though he is short late, he is not as short at the others he will be competing against. Outlasting the rest at the wire, he finds a way to prove best at the finish line. Leading from the box must be Ghost Face. Ghost has been first to the turn in 5 of the last 6 races and has won 2 of those starts. He is very short late though and it will cost him again in this effort. Stride With Me is back in grade A and back breaking, which means she too will be a force throughout in this effort. She likes the rail and will give her all to the stretch. Late everyone better be wary of Sara’s Sailor. Hot off a win, and 2 in her last 4 starts, she has found that closing speed and might just upset everyone at the wire if she is close early on. (7-4-2-6)
Droppers abound in the 9th race on the card and it could be one of these former A’s that takes the cake in this grade B race. Warped just missed in grade B last time out, and previous to that, she was a strong force in her grade A efforts. She likes it wide and will flourish from this post. Rck Nightingale is also down a grade and should prove to be the one to catch in this race. She has loads of early speed and will be a force throughout on the front end. If she steals enough early, she might last on the late lead and win. Another breaker, Black Pass, is coming off a win and should prompt the pace from start to finish. He too is short late and it might be his demise in this effort. Yet another dropper lurks in the 1 box. Dutch Cruzaround has the skills to break and dominate on the lead to win, but you just never know when he is going to show up. Here we pick him, just in case he wants to fire. (6-4-2-1)
Taking to the MAX one more time, Lk’s Maximus is looking to stretch his winning streak to 4 straight races. Breaking has been the most important part of this winning run, and he will have to come out in a hurry to stay ahead of the rest of this field early on. Se’s Red Dragon also is breaking quickly and has back to back wins showing as well. This duo should provide us with quite a battle on the lead for the duration of this race. Atascocita Rip is no slouch either coming out of the box and can challenge everyone with every step he takes. He has not won in 3 starts, but has forced the pace and been in factor in all of those efforts. If the leaders get tired late, he could sneak by and steal the win. Bret is a recent shipper that looks the part of a greyhound that might have an outside shot at the upset. He has won back to back races and has shown some early speed at Daytona, now will the translate to the Orange Park oval? Only time will tell. (3-8-4-5)
Capping off the weekend in the 15th and final race for Sunday matinee, we look to the veterans to carry us on home. Gm’s Cashman was the Night of Stars winner who was all the way down in grade D. Recently he has started to climb out of the hole and has won 2 of 4 starts to get back to grade B. He draws a great 1 box in this effort and looks to keep the mojo going strong in this effort. Shining is coming into this one hot off a win. She is posted up nicely and has enough late speed to threaten at the wire. Broncs is a solid dropper that can close with the best of them in the stretch. He had a tough drop and might be upset minded if he can get out of the starting box at all tonight. Now for the breaker. Kiowa Burn Fire is the only early speed greyhound in this race and that only occurs when she wants it to. If the light bulb goes on, she has a chance to contend to the stretch. (1-2-6-3)
