17-770redue-finals2

In the past few weeks we not only had one stakes race to tout, we had two of them to watch, wager, and win on here at bestbet Jacksonville. It’s was time for the best 770 yard greyhounds around to compete, and even get another chance at victory in our Marathon Duel Redue stakes. You see the top 16 marathoners ran a qualifying round on Monday April 24th, with the top 4 greyhounds from each race moving on to the finals on Saturday evening April 29th at bestbet Jacksonville. That was race totally exciting, but that was not the end of it. Everyone got another chance to play as we put the same greyhounds, back in the same posts, and ran the race again in the 2nd final on Saturday evening May 6th. Did the outcome remain the same? Did someone score back to back wins? Or, did we have a totally different order of finish at the wire? Keep reading and you will find out just what transpired in both finals here at bestbet Jacksonville.

In the first final the field was set and ready to go from the start. The lure breezed by, the box opened, and everyone came to run. It was a mad rush from the start and several greyhounds were in contention from the get go. Clearly the one to catch though was Dutch Reagan. Seizing the front end, he was in command from just a few strides out of the starting box and was going to make whoever wanted to win this effort, work hard to get the job done. As they went down the backside and around the turn, Jurassic Bark and Pat C Galaxy chased the game pace with Boc’s Queen Lady in close contention. Around the turn, they went and the order stayed the same. This chase pack was doing their best to catch up the leader, but Reagan proved determined on the front end and clung to the short margin up front. Breezing around the escape turn, down the backside, and to the far turn, the field went, and by the far turn it was getting really interesting up front. The field had caught up to the leader and it was anyone’s race on the way home. This one was going to come down to who wanted it more in the stretch. As the leader was passed, everyone made a last-ditch effort to seal the deal. Putting on her man pants was Pat C Galaxy. Head to head, nose to nose, she went after the front end and in the end, no one was going to prove better than her at the wire. Try as they might, no one could overcome her heart. Just missing in second with a gallant effort was Jurassic Bark. Bark battled as well, but in the end, came up just short of the win. Kudos for third as the track record holder, made up for getting outrushed early, and finding no room, to clear and come a running late in the race to challenge. From 8th early on, and 6th at the far turn, Herstal out closed the rest and stole away show at the wire. C Ville Hope also came on strong late for 4th as the early chaser Boc’s Queen Lady was ousted for a money spot and had to settle for 5th. Early leader Dutch Reagan finished 6th, followed by Fiesta Bonker in 7th and Good Luckchigger in 8th.

One week later, Pat C Galaxy got another chance to put up a stakes victory from the same post position, and early on, it appeared that she was up to the task. Breaking well, she took over early control of the 2nd final over 770 yards, that was the good news. The bad news? Well track record holder Herstal broke 3rd and was way to close too early not to be considered a threat to win the race. As they rounded the early turn, Galaxy was in easy control of the race, but was being pressed by Boc’s Queen Lady while Herstal and Jurassic Bark chased from a few more lengths behind the leaders. The lead duo continued to set the pace and push the lead down the frontside and through the escape turn, but by the far turn things were a changing. Herstal had made a great move into second at the far turn and then set her sights on the leader as they turned for home. Digging in deep, and shifting gears, the track record holder found something left in her bag of tricks as she hit the gas down the stretch and not only took over command of the race on the rail, she drew away in the final strides for a convincing victory. Props to Pat C Galaxy as she might have gotten the job done if anyone else was chasing her late, but settling for place to the track record holder after winning the first final, still sounds like a very good night. Third was seized by Good Luckchigger who make up ground throughout and outdrove all the rest to the wire. Fourth was the always closing threat Fiesta Bonker. Early contenders faded back late as Jurassic Bark was 5th, and the always pressing to the far turn runner Boc’s Queen Lady for 6th. Completed the field was Dutch Reagan in 7th and C Ville Hope was scratched.

Congratulations to the newcomer Pat C Galaxy, owner Pat Collins, Trainer Scott Jarvis, and everyone else connected with this fantastic looking pup. Also, congratulation to the veteran, and former 770 stakes winner and track record holder, Herstal for yet another stakes win! Kudos head out to the Clear Lake Racing Kennel, Trainer Jim Rae, owners Bob Hardison and Hamilton, and everyone else connected to her success. Both greyhounds can run not only 770, but 660 too, and there are still a couple of stakes events left in the year that they might already have their eyes on. Good Luck in the future and keep a lookout for what else these fantastic greyhounds can do here at bestbet Jacksonville.

Its stakes racing time again, and this time out we get to see the best puppies at the racetrack here in the 2017 edition of the bestbet Puppy Stakes. Loads on talent is on tap in the 6 feature races in round 1. It all starts on Monday evening May 15th, with the second round taking place on Friday evening May 19th. The field will be trimmed down for round three on Monday May 22nd, and the semi-finals will take place on Saturday evening May 27th. The finals of this event will run on Saturday evening June 3rd in the 11th race in conjunction with the kickoff of our Greyhound Summer Promotion! Make you plans, and trust me when I say, you don’t want to miss all the fun that is planned on that night.

Let’s take a closer look at the races in round 1 and see if we can get you cashing some tickets tonight.

Round 1 of the 2017 bestbet Puppy Stakes

Monday evening May 15th, 2017

Race 4 – Class always plays a role in stakes rounds and here only three greyhounds are in grade A. So, let’s go with them. Braska Jericho is a posted up strong contender that will be in the mix throughout for the win. He needs to work though as solid grade A Pat C Hash Tag is looking to get back into form tin this effort from a better starting post. Cruella Deville can also be tough if closer early on and the 3 box should get her into contention as well. Don’t sleep on the puppy Dutch Dalton as he has showing good closing speed and could surprise in the super. (7-4-3-5)

Race 7 – Once again 2 grade A’s vs the rest. The class of this field is Pat C Cozy. Clearly, she is the one to beat in this effort, and she might even be the won to challenge for the whole title when it is all said and done. Cozy has won 3 of her last 4 races in grade A and this is no grade A race. Easy winner, who wants second. Trying to make her work will be Ww Lemon Mint. Another grade A who can flash on occasion. Keep an eye out for the early speed threat from the rail, Dutch Kylee Jo and the back to back winner got it good. (8-3-1-6)

Race 9 – Early speed will separate the rest in the 9th race. Cat Ballou is a front running machine that will clear early again in this effort. The question is if she can get to the wire and hold on for back to back victories? She is short late, but I think she can get it done on this effort. It won’t be easy early as Ww Rowdy should be pressing the pace from next door, and late and closers, Grade A threat Pat C Panic, and 660 convert Critics Choice, will be coming on strong to threaten at the finish line. (7-2-6-8)

Race 10 – This might be the toughest stakes evening on the card. Tons of talent in this one and anyone might have a chance to win if the cards fall right to them at the wire. Dutch Double is a solid grade A that has double the wins of anyone in this field. Posted well, on or off the pace, he will be a handful in this effort. Pushing him early will be the rising star Ww Caramel, along with the solid grade A well posted threat Bambi Brake. Don’t forget the 1 either. Pat C Dupree won the last two times he has started from the 1 box. (2-5-8-1)

Race 11 – Another mismatch in my opinion in this effort. The two-grade a’s here as better than the rest and one is even a former stakes finalist. Ww Next Bigthing has been on a tear late with 3 wins in 4 races, including a victory in his last race from this same starting box. Expect for him to leave quickly and make quick work of this field.; Dutch Casey also get a look after 4 trifectas in 5 races in grade A and B. Sure it might be at 550, but he can sprint as well. Late he will be a factor. Puppy power could factor as well. Lk’s Striker looks to be the real deal with 3 wins in 6 starts and 5 in the quiniela, and the late threat Pat C Typhoon with 5 races in a row in the money. (1-3-2-5)

Race 15 – Another race with some miss-matches. Four grade A’s should be enough to overcome the rest. Ln Michaels is a former stakes finalist that has better early speed than anyone else in this field. The solid grade A, has not missed the trifecta in 4 straight and has been getting fresher in each start. Look for back to back, box to wire, wins! Recent stakes winner Pat C Galaxy is moving back to sprints and could challenging from a great outside post. Kennelmate Pat C Flagship also could be factor too as he has only missed the trifecta once in his last 6 starts. Bang Ludwig is totally not in the right spot in this race, l but if he can clear early on, he has the skills to win this effort. With 2 wins in 3 races, don’t count him out. (6-8-4-1)

Round 2 will run on Friday evening May 19th, 2017 and all 6 races will return. Don’t miss out on your favorites.

Chalk Abounds in Round 1

Round one of the 2017 bestbet Puppy Stakes is in the books, and for the most part, the class and chalk prevailed. In 4 of the 6 efforts, the post time favorite got the nod at the finish line, including a pair of wins from the Pat Collins and Wayne Ward Kennels.

The biggest effort on the evening came in the 11th race as former stakes veteran Ww Next Bigthing, from the Wayne Ward Kennel, made the most of the post and dominated from the get go. Breaking on top, he increased his lead throughout and stretch a 2-length lead at the turn to a 4.5 length victory at the finish line. Stopping the clock at the best time in the first round, 30.54 seconds, Bigthing made a big NOISE in round 1. Chasing throughout for next best was Pat C Typhoon, followed by the late closing threat Dutch Casey in 3rd as the even running Baseball Trophy completed the superfecta.

The Wayne Wards other big winner came in the 9th. Ww Rowdy stalked the early pace of Cat Ballou to the turn and up the backside, but decided that he was not going to be denie3d in this effort. Turning it on, he stole away 2 lengths on the rest of the field by the far turn and coasted all the way to the wire for the 3.5 length victory. Early leader Cat Ballou held on for place as Critics Choice came from way back late to steal away the show position in the stretch for the steady chasing threat pat C Panic.

The Pat Collins kennel was the other double winner on the card and their best trip came in the 4th race. Pat C Hash Tag left nothing to chance or interpretation in this effort. Breaking on top, he would not be denied the lead and was just keep breezing up front for the duration of this trip around the oval. He padded his 2-length lead at the turn all the way up to 4.5 lengths at the finish line. Crossing in a speedy 30.61 second clocking, he threw his hat into the ring as someone to pay attention to moving forward. Running second was the strong driving Dutch Dalton, followed by the closing Cbj Charlie. Both greyhounds passed the chasing Braska Jericho late in the stretch as Jericho had to settle for 4th at the finish line.

Collins also won the 7th race with Pat C Cozy, but this one was not going to be as easy as Hash Tags win. Breaking in the middle of the pack, she had some work to do early on, but hitting the NOS at the night time, she outrushed everyone to the turn and was clearly sailing on the front end as they rounded the ben and headed up the backside. Maintaining all the way to the finish line, she bested the field by 3.5 lengths at the wire in 30.68 seconds. Got It Good followed the leader the whole way in place as WW Tuaca Ron won the ward battle for show over kennelmate Ww Lemon Mint.

Not to be outdone, the 2017 James J Patton Silver Cup finalist, Ln Michaels, from the Double J Kennel, looked sharp in the nightcap. Using his early speed to his advantage, he broke sharply, rushed hard to the turn, and took over command as they headed down the backside. Cruising on the lead, his nose in the open air, he continued the onslaught and breezed home to a 4.5 length victory in 30.63 seconds. Winning the distance place duel was Twelve Volt Man over Pat C Flagship as slight closing Paxton Bradshaw completed the superfecta.

The other winner was the Phenom, Dutch Double from the Lester Raines Kennel. He might have just had 24 starts before this one, but he has won more races, 12, than any other greyhound in this field. He is a beast when he breaks and even without the lead he can score at the wire. In the 10th race, he was way to close too early, and proved that he was unstoppable at the finish line. Breaking on top was Bambi Brake. She set the pace to the far turn, but that is where he fun ended. Moving up from 3rd early, Double was stalking by the far turn, took over heading down the stretch, and they he drew away late for the 2-length win at the wire in 30.65 seconds. Bambi ran a game trip and settled for place as Of Wagon Train and Ww Caramel both closed from off the pace to secure 3rd and 4th respectively at the finish line.

Round 2 of the bestbet puppy stakes runs on Friday evening May 19 at bestbet Jacksonville. All 6 fields of greyhounds return, so don’t miss out on your favorites. I will see YOU at the races!

Round 2 of bestbet Puppy Stakes

Round two of the 2017 bestbet Puppy Stakes is here and all 6 races, minus a couple of greyhounds, is ready to challenge for some more points and a chance to move on toward the finals. Loads of talent on tap, and some very tough races to contend with. Let’s look at round 2 and see if we can get you cashing some tickets this weekend at bestbet Jacksonville.

Round 2 of the 2017 bestbet Puppy Stakes

Friday evening May 19th, 2017

Race 7 – Seven Greyhound Race – Class rules the day in this race, and when we are talking class, we are talking Pat C Cozy and Ww Next Bigthing. Clearly these solid grade A’s, who have both won back to back races and 4 of their last 6, will be the ones to beat. Both greyhounds are poised to win, but the post advantage goes to COZY. It will be a heated battle, play them like you like, and cash, cash, cash on tickets. Next best should be reserved for the finally outside again runner Bang Ludwig, and capping off your superfecta wagers I would go with the other side of the empty post Fury Kapcori (8-7-6-4)

Race 9 – Seven Greyhound Race – This race is the toughest in the round with 6 grade A’s and a grade B in the mix. All greyhounds in this race have a shot at the big-time victory, but only one can come out on top. Clearly early this race will be first round winner’s Ln Michaels to lose. This early speed machine is tough up top and comes in here with back to back wins, but he can be caught and will be challenged late by the late closing first round winner, and room early foe, Dutch Double. Don’t sleep on Ww Rowdy either. This back to back winner, including round 1, can also contend, even though he might be a step over his paygrade. Best of the rest, early speeder on the inside, Cat Ballou. (8-4-6-3)

Race 10 – Outside once again as Pat C Panic looks to get back on track from a great post position. The highest ranked greyhound in a race with no grade A’s, his experience will pay dividends at the wire tonight. Pushing hard and making him work for the win will be the always trying threat Ww Tuaca Ron. Also, trying to find a way to victory lane will be April Ross. Probably the best early speed greyhound here, she might just get the front end, set the pace, and upset all if the mood is right. Don’t forget about Cruella Deville either. A former grade A runner, she is tough if she can get close to the early lead in any start, but she must overcome the post to get it done here. (8-5-3-7)

Race 11 – Load of early speed in this race and it could a battle from the get go to see who gets control and if they will be able to hold it all the way to the wire for the win. Ww Caramel is a stalking closing grade A that would prove best at the wire tonight. Posted well, he should get out around the leaders and find a way to get his nose in front before the wire. Setting the pace will be Braska Jericho. Finally, back in inside again, he will discover his brake force the pace throughout in this effort. Pat C Typhoon loves it wide and will use his late speed to get up into the mix at the finish line, and don’t forget Paxton Bradshaw from a great inside post in this one. If he gets loose early, he could be upset minded in this effort. (6-3-8-2)

Race 12 – Sticking with the class theme, 3 grade A’s in this race and 3 in the money greyhounds. Bambi Brake just missed in round 1 and get another good spot to break from. Holding on late, she makes amends in this effort. Trying his best to take her down will be first round winner Pat C Hash Tag. A long way from the rail here, he must adjust in this effort. If he can get a clean lane, he can contend too. Pat C Flagship has good early and will be around the pace till late in this race, and Ww lemon Min looks to get back to grade A despite wanting to be wide and starting from the 1 box. A big break could even the playing field in this one. (7-8-4-1)

Race 13 – Everything is going for Got It Good in this effort. The greyhound loves the rail and get the one box. He has been hot as of late, 2 wins and a close place in round 1, in his last 3 starts, and no early speed around him at the start of this effort. I think that he will break well and should command the lead and the win in this effort. Pressuring him, but not until late, will be his next-door neighbor, Critics Choice. Coming from well off the pace in round 1, he finished a close 3rd at the wire. Look for a bigger and better trip tonight. Twelve Volt Man shocked with a 2nd in round 1, but gets a better post and could be around late as well. Don’t sleep on Pat C Dupree either. I know the lines are not that great, but he can flash when clear and has enough early to steal the lead if he wants to go. He’s here just in case. (1-2-6-8)

The field will be cut in half for the 3rd round of action as only the best of the best move on in the 2017 bestbet Puppy Stakes. Catch us on Monday May 22nd, and see just who is left and what will happen in round number 3.

Two Untouched in bestbet Puppy Stakes

The second round the bestbet Puppy Stakes is complete, and as early speed dominated the round, two greyhounds have separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Ww Next Bigthing and Ln Michaels both make quick work of their fields and arrive in the 3rd round as the undefeated duo, and greyhounds to beat in this stakes race.

Clearly, Ww Next Bigthing put on the biggest show in round number two. Breaking to the lead in the 7th race, he stole away an early margin and kept up the pace all the way to the wire. He was 3 lengths clear at the wire and stopped the clock at a cards best 30.57 romp. It would have been uglier, but solid threat Pat C Cozy ran a game race and didn’t let it get out of hand. Third was the chasing Ww Pure Gold as Bang Ludwig also came on late to complete the superfecta.

Even though the 9th race was almost the slowest of the 6 stakes events, it didn’t matter for Ln Michaels. He might not have put on his best foot from the box, but he did bring his rushing shoes. Flying to the front end, he seized command at the turn and took a length lead down the backside. Once in the open air, he got comfortable and even padded his lead on the way to the wire. Crossing 3 lengths better than the rest, Ln Michaels is proving once again that he is stakes final material. Second was Ww Rowdy. Third was Pat C Galaxy, and fourth went to Kenro Ruger.

The DQ Williams Kennel, and the Lester Raines Kennel, both also showed up to run in round number two as they recorded 2 wins each. DQ took home victories in the 10th and 12th races, while Lester Raines won the 11th and 13th on the card.

Both of Dq’s winners came from the 7 box and the wins looked like mirror images of themselves. Breaking on top in race number 10, Cruella Deville stole away a couple of lengths early on and maintained all the way to the finish line for the victory. (Of Wagon Train was 2nd, Pat C Panic was 3rd, and Ww Coherent was 4th) Bambi Brake followed suit in the 12th was a strong break, and early lead, and a breezing win on the front end. (Pat C Hash Tag applied pressure in 2nd, followed by Gs Echo in 3rd and Pat C Flagship in 4th)

Lester Raines greyhounds followed the early speed trend, they must have gotten the memo, and make quick work of their fields as well. Breaking close and demanding control from the field as he rushed the turn, Kells Drago, make them stand up and take notice in this effort. Clearly by 2 at the turn, he stretched that margin to 4 by the far turn and crossed the line 3 lengths better than the rest. Paxton Bradshaw chased throughout in 2nd, as Baseball Trophy finished 3rd and Braska Jericho finished 4th. Rams Black Rose had to work a bit harder to get her win in the 13th race. She hit the lid and was in the lead from the get go, but she was not alone. She was pressed with every step she took around the oval, and she almost saw her 2-length lead at the far turn, evaporate at the finish line. She survived the late surge by Got It Good as she completed the task by a NOSE at the wire. After a winning trip, Got It Good settled for place, followed by Critics Choice, 1 length off the win, and early threat Pat C Dupree who retreated late into 4th.

The field will be trimmed down to 4 races for the semi-finals on Monday evening May 22nd at bestbet Jacksonville.

Round 3 of bestbet Puppy Stakes

The field has been trimmed down for the 3rd round of the bestbet Puppy Stakes and only the cream of the crop has moved on to challenge for a chance to get into the finals. Loads of talent are still on tap, and two greyhounds are still undefeated, but there are several chances for others to step up, win and move on in the stakes. Points are available still, so let’s look at the race and see if we can get you some winners on Monday evening.

Third Round of bestbet Puppy Stakes

Monday evening May 22nd, 2017

Race 7 – Class is the key to success in this effort and you must like the solid grade A, Bambi Brake in this effort. This greyhound has not missed the quiniela in either r9ound and is coming off a big time win last time out. Finally, back on the inside, she will break well and prove determined late again. She will not be alone though as double runner up, and red hot running threat, Got It Good, should be pressing the pace throughout. Watch out for the solid rail running Ww Rowdy to throw his hat into the ring for the W as well in this effort, and don’t sleep on Kells Drago. I know he is just figuring it all out, and is not even in grade A yet, but if he gets loose, he has the chops to take them all down tonight. (1-8-2-6)

Race 9 – Post makes a difference for Dutch Double in this effort. After a strong win in round 1, double didn’t break, found trouble, and finished out of the money in round #2. Here he must get back on track and the 8 box is a perfect place for him to start from. He will love it outside and will be close enough early to take down anyone late in this effort. His biggest threat will most likely be Paxton Bradshaw. Another well posted closer, he will make it interesting in the stretch. Pat C Galaxy has the class and post to be a threat, but the distance doesn’t suit her that well. She wants to go longer, and here just will just be another late runner to contend for a money spot. Bang Ludwig also get a notice as he loves it outside and can flash so big time speed when clear. If he hits the lid, he could upset this field. (8-3-1-6)

Race 11 – Arguably the best greyhound in the stakes, Ww Next Bigthing is not only winning races, he is dominating fields and making a strong case for the greyhound to bat moniker. Winning both rounds of the stakes, winning 3 straight, and 5 of his last 6 efforts, he has been a beast and it all starts with his break. Here he gets room early next to him with the 5 box and no early speed around him. He will clear close, or on the lead, and post up another big win tonight. Trying to keep things close will be the inside solid grade A duo of Pat C Flagship and Braska Jericho, who both have been in the money in both rounds so far in the stakes. Winning might be a stretch for either one, but both are posted well and could find some mojo if Bigthing sits at the break. Don’t forget about Cat Ballou either. Probably the only greyhound with the early foot to beat Bigthing to the lead, but late she will be no match for the big dogs. Short and drifting back, she holds on somewhere in the super at the wire. (4-2-3-7)

Race 15 – Great match-up here in the nightcap. The undefeated Ln Michaels and the solid grade A, winning of 4 of 6 races, Pat C Cozy. Both elite greyhounds who should be headed to the finals and tonight they get a little bit of a warm-up for that effort. Michaels has the early speed edge over Cozy, but Cozy can close late and get to Michaels before the wire if things play out. So, who wins? Does the early get it done? Or, does the late speeder get it done? I’ll take Michaels by a nose. Others to consider here include the resurging in the stakes runner Pat C Hash Tag, and the well posted hot off a determined win threat Cruella Deville. (4-7-6-3)

The semi-finals will run on Saturday evening May 27th. The field will be trimmed down to 3 races and only the best of the best will move on to the finals. Remember that they run on Saturday evening June 3rd in conjunction with the Kickoff of our GREYHOUND SUMMER PROMOTION. Make you plans early as you do not want to miss out on all the cash, fun, prizes, and stakes that awaits on June 3rd. I’ll see u at the races.

Onslaught Continues in Puppy Stakes

The third round of the 2017 bestbet Puppy Stakes is over and I guess you could say it was the MORE OF THE SAME round. The right keep getting richer as the two undefeated greyhounds make quick work of their fields and posted up their third win in a row in the rounds. The other two winners, we repeaters from round 1 as they got back to the top spot with strong front running effort. The undefeated duo have already clinching a spot in the finals. The rest of this field must duke it out for the remaining 6 spots in Saturday evening June 3rds race.

Ww Next Bigthing make it know that he is the one to beat in this field. Breaking from the middle of the racetrack, he was close a few strides out and wasted no time in getting to the early lead. Rushing to a 3- length margin early he was in complete control of the 11th race on the card. Maintaining would have been great, but he had BiggerThings in mind. Driving off the rabbit down the backside, he met the far turn with a 7-length margin, but even then, he was not satisfied. Shifting gears down the stretch, he hit the gas once again and blistered the clock at 30.48 seconds as he won by a mile, well 11.5 lengths at the finish line. Next best was Braska Jericho, followed by Gs Echo in 3rd, and Critics Choice in 4th.

Ln Michaels might not have run as fast in the 15th race, but the results were the same as he joined Next Bigthing as the other greyhound that has not lost so far in this stakes event. Breaking from the same 4 box, he treed the field at the start and was in control from the first step he took from the starting box. Rushing well to the turn, he took his length margin up the backside and continued to hold strong on the lead to the far turn. As he turned for home he was comfortably in front by a pair of lengths, as he gave a determined finish to the wire to secure yet another win in the rounds. Crossing 1.5 lengths better than the rest, he stopped the clock in 30.75 seconds. Pushing the pace the entire way, but just never quite getting close enough to challenge for the front end, was Pat C Cozy. Baseball Trophy finished 3rd and Rams Black Rose completed the superfecta.

Dutch Double ran the race of the night as he made the most of his post, the 8 box, and put up and impressive victory in race number 9. Breaking sharply, Dutch Double was in the front from the start, and if you have seen him run, that was going to be trouble for the rest of this field. Clearing by a couple of lengths at the first turn, he cruised around the turn, down the backside and thru the far turn in completed control of this effort. Down the stretch, he turned on the jets, like he always does, and drew away from his rivals as he scored a 5-length win at the wire. Posting up the quickest trip of the night in 30.43 seconds, Dutch Double just re-established the fact that he could be a major player in the outcome of this stakes race. Second was the game early threat Ww Lemon Min, followed by Bang Ludwig in 3rd and Twelve Volt Man in 4th.

Ww Rowdy was the other winner on the card, and that hard-fought effort came your way in the 7th race. Breaking close, Ww Rowdy found a rushing late, bolted by his rivals, and took over command of this effort at the first turn. Clearing by a couple of lengths, he was breezing down the backside and even improved his position by the far turn. Down the stretch, it got interesting though. Chaser, Of Wagon Train, circled the WAGONS and was making a run for the finish line, but in the end Ww Rowdy held them off late and got the win at the wire. Second was the aforementioned Of Wagon Train, followed by the always in contention threat Bambi Brake, and the steady gaining Kells Drago in 4th.

The field will be trimmed down once again for the semi-finals as only the top 24 greyhounds will have a shot at the finals on Saturday evening June 3rd at bestbet Jacksonville. Time for the top 24 greyhounds in the 2017 bestbet Puppy Stakes to compete once again here in the semi-finals for a chance to move on to the big show on Saturday evening June 3rd at bestbet Jacksonville. That’s the good news, the bad news is that there are only 6 spots left up for grabs in the finals. By winning the first three rounds in a row, Ww Next Bigthing and Ln Michaels have almost guaranteed themselves a spot in the elite eight, but the rest is up for debate. Several greyhounds are lurking and could secure a spot as well with a big-time effort on Saturday evening. Let’s take a closer look at the remaining 3 races and see if we can get you some winners this weekend at bestbet Jacksonville.

Semi-Finals 2017 bestbet Puppy Stakes

Saturday evening May 27th, 2017

Race 7 – Living up to his name, Ww Next Bigthing, is proving that he is the one to beat in this stakes race. Winning all 3 of the rounds so far, four straight, and 6 of his last 7 starts, he is a man amongst boys so far in this competition. Tonight, you get more of the same. He is in a bit tougher than he has been in the past, he does get a tough middle post, but with no speed around him, he will get the lead, prove tough on top, and take home yet another W. Pushing the leader the whole way will be Pat C Cozy. This solid grade A gets another great outside post and looks to get back into the winner’s circle in this effort. She won in round #1, and just missed in the next two. She hasn’t missed the money in 11 straight races and tonight will be just more of the same. The BIGGEST threat to Bigthing, is Cozy. Running late and trying to get into the mix will be the late closing Of Wagon Train and the well posted tough late threat when I want to be runner Paxton Bradshaw. (5-8-6-2)

Race 9 – Another undefeated greyhound graces the ranks and comes out the other side untouched. Ln Michaels is a strong front running greyhound that is getting strong with age. This pup already was in the finals of the $50,000 James J Patton Silver Cup, and hopes that this time around he can post up a better effort in the finals. He has to run through the semi-s first and tonight, he will make quick work of this field. He is in not as tough as Bigthing is, and frankly there is no one here that can match his speed out of the box. Look for an almost false start from the break and for him to dash off early, maintain throughout, and cross with ease for the win. Vying for next best in this effort will be his next door neighbor, Ww Lemon Mint. This girl needs a big effort and the outside post is the best spot for her to do it from. If she follows the leader out from the start, she has a shot at pulling off the upset. Others to consider her include the solid grade A Pat C Flagship, along with the I’m fast, but totally in the wrong box runner, Bang Ludwig. (7-8-3-1)

Race 11 – Another big duel here in the nightcap of the rounds. As fast as I want to be runner, Dutch Double, goes up against the finding my groove now runner, Ww Rowdy. Both greyhounds have done well in the rounds, winning 2 races, but they still might need another strong effort to ideally put them into the final round for sure. Both greyhounds are in places that they like to run from, and either could put up a strong effort and take home the victory in this race. Pure puppy power will determine the outcome of this effort, and for that reason alone I have to give the nod to Dutch Double. From the lead, or from off the pace, this greyhound can get it done. Posting up the fastest effort in qualifying so far, he has the best raw speed of the bunch, and when loose, he is almost unstoppable. The post work, so will he for the win tonight. Rowdy is no slough though, and if Double sits early and waits too long to run, he will be beat by the talented pup. Breaking is more of his forte as of late and will come out close at the start of this effort. In order to win, he will need to steal away the front end, and hope that Double runs into trouble in this effort. They are not the only greyhounds with a chance in this race. Bambi Brake has a win in qualifying and hasn’t missed the trifcvecta in all of her starts in the rounds. She is posted well and can hang with the best of them. A big break is needed for her to do well also. Let’s not forget Braska Jericho on your tickets either. Winning might be a stretch, but contending is like old hat for him. He has been in the money in 5 straight races and has been in the hunt in all of the rounds of the stakes so far. The post is good, let’s see if there is a rabbit left to pull in this effort for a surprise trick into the winner’s circle. (1-6-2-4)

Undefeated! You don’t see that very often during the stakes rounds, and in this puppy stakes we not only have one, but two, greyhounds that accomplished that feat. Ww Next Bigthing has the best pedigree in the field and I’m not really surprised at all that you find him tied at the top of the rankings. He has only competed in two stakes races, and he has made the finals of both, and finished 2nd in the finals of the $50,000 James J Patton Silver Cup back in March. This greyhound is a monster once he gets his nose in front and that is just what he did in every start during qualifying. His most impressive race came in the third round as he broke well, seized command, and raced off along to win by almost 12 lengths in a speedy time of 30.48 seconds. The funny part of things was that he didn’t come in with all the fan fair of some of the other finalists. He joined us from Iowa Greyhound Park as a puppy that didn’t break his maiden. After he couple of months off, he flashed a few talented runs here and there, but now things are all starting to come together and he is proving to be one of the best greyhounds at the racetrack. Not only has he won 4 straight in the rounds, he has posted up wins against the best at the racetrack in 5 straight trips, and 7 of his last 8 efforts. Firing on all cylinders right now he is going to be tough to beat in this effort. Post position is not really all that important to him, as he has won from several different ones during his streak, but getting out of the box well will be a factor in the outcome of this effort. He must be close early to win and a post position on the edges of the racetrack should give him the best opportunity to get things done. This time out he is looking for a win, not a 2nd, at the finish line. This is his race to lose. Let’s see if he can get it done tonight.

Not to be outdone, fellow former stakes finalist Ln Michaels also went undefeated through the rounds of the 2017 bestbet Puppy Stakes. The best in him comes out when the brightest lights are on. Look no further than his first stake experience, the 2017 James J Patton Silver Cup. There he won the first 3 rounds as well and vaulted himself into the final round race. He did falter in that effort, but looks to make amends this time out in the bestbet Puppy Stakes. Breaking is his key to fame and once in front he is darn tough to run down before the finish line. That was never more on display than in his semi-final race as he burst from the box, grabbed control, and coasted around the racetrack to win by 3 lengths in 30.51 seconds. Ln Michaels is the only entry in the stakes for the double J Kennel, and big things were expected of him early on. He only took 8 starts to reach the grade A ranks, and once there, he won his first two grade A races in a row. Post position is not all that dyer of a need for him as he can run from anywhere, as long as he breaks. His early speed puts him in good position every time, and right now he is really coming out of the starting box in a hurry. If he did get to pick though, I’m sure he would love to be outside. There he has won 4 races in a row, 5 of his 7 trips, and he has not finished out of the quiniela in any of those efforts. Bet on him bringing his breaking talents to this race, as he will be the one to catch on the lead if they want to win at the wire.

Bambi Brake – (59 Points)
Career Totals (27/8-6-2-2)
W F – F May 2015 Offthebrakedrake – Good Luck Ruby
Owned By – Sharon Williams
Runs for DQ Williams Kennel
Trained by Craig Edwards

Bambi Brake is a strong closing greyhound from the DQ Williams kennel that really stepped up the consistency of her game in the rounds. In her first attempt against the best at the racetrack, she was up to the task. Winning twice, and never finishing out of the trifecta in any effort, she showed that she belonged in the mix with the best greyhounds at the racetrack. Her best trip in qualifying came when she needed it the most. Breaking on top in the semi-finals, she was hard pressed throughout, but never gave up the ghost. Digging in deep in the stretch, she held strong to her short lead and parlayed that determined effort into a win at the finish line. Another early riser in her career, she only took 10 starts to reach the grade A ranks, but it would take a couple extra to get her first win against the top-grade talent at the racetrack. Like we said before closing is her game, and she is not out of any race because of it. When she breaks she is extra tough, and the post position could go a long way in helping her out in this effort. If you look at her lines, it becomes apparent that the edges are where she wants to be. Far inside, or far outside, are good places for her to start from as she gets a little room early to rush and get into contention. If she can fire out like she has during the rounds, never worse than 2nd from the box, she might just be a surprise winner come the finish line in the finals of the 2017 bestbet Puppy Stakes.

Career Totals (31/6-4-6-2)
W F – M August 2015 KC And All – Ww Wind Turbines
Owned By – Jaws Racing, LLC
Runs for the Wayne Ward Kennel
Trained by Kelly Rowell

The biggest surprise in the finals might just be Ww Rowdy from the Wayne Ward Kennel. Rowdy didn’t even reach the grade A ranks until he won the first round in qualifying and that race had to be his best effort against the best puppies at the racetrack. Breaking in the middle of the pack, he found room early, and rushed hard up into contention at the first turn. From that point on he was on a mission, and by the far turn he had already taken over the race. Jogging home, he stretched out his margin some and made it known right then and there that he might be over his head a bit, but he was not afraid of the big boys and girls in this competition. Opposite of what happened with the other greyhounds in this race, big things were NOT expected of him early on. Sure, he won a maiden race, but then he struggled in grade D, and even graded off one time before things started to kick in and get going for him. He took the longest time to get to grade A of the bunch, 28 starts, but is poised and ready to go in his first stakes final in his first even attempt at stakes racing competition. Post could aide him in his effort here in the finals, well that is if he can draw a post on the rail, or the far outside of the racetrack. Either would suit him just fine in this race. Tonight, he still might be running over his head, but don’t tell him that. Looking at the rounds, he BELIEVES and that is all it takes to win.

Pat C Cozy might have just had the harder run to the finals than any other greyhound in this race. In three of his four rounds, excluding her strong win in round number one, she had to run against the two undefeated greyhounds in qualifying. Twice she matched up with Ww Next Bigthing, she finished a close second and third, and she also raced against Ln Michaels, where she also finished a close second at the wire. Her win was a thing of beauty though. In that first round race she broke slow, rushed best to the turn, and never looked back. Breezing on the front end, she set the tone for the rest of the rounds in just one start. The first of two greyhounds from Pat Collins, Cozy made the finals for the first time in her second attempt at stakes racing competition. Another strong riser, Cozy climbed the ladder to grade A in just 6 races and was never out of the quiniela on her ascension. Consistency is the name of her game as she has not missed the money in 12 straight efforts. Post for her is easy, easy, easy to see. She wants to start from the 8 box. No other, just the 8. In her 11 career races from that post, she has won 5 times, finished in the quiniela in 10 starts, and has never missed the trifecta. Winning is what she needs to get back to doing in this final round race, but if the planets are not aligned for that here, you know one thing for sure. She WILL be in the money at the wire.

DoubleDutch Double – (46 Points)
Career Totals (28/14-2-3-2)
Dk Bd – M June 2015 Flying Hydrogen – Dutch Dinah
Owned By – Jo Ann Koerner
Runs for the Lester Raines Kennel
Trained by Mike Gerard

The quickest of the quick in qualifying, Dutch Double is as fast as he wants to be, his consistency is what he needs to work on. Winning two of the races in fine fashion, he added a 6th and 4th place finish to find a spot in the finals in his first ever try for the Lester Raines Kennel. This closer showed his dominance when he can get out of the starting box well in round number 3. Breaking on top, he was long gone from the get go and the numbers just kept on multiplying as he cruised around the course. Maintaining a 2.5 length lead to the far turn, he turned on the jets in the stretch and padded his number to 5 at the finish line. Stopping the clock at a stakes best time of 30.43 seconds, he proved that no matter the situation, he must be considered a threat to win at any point on the racetrack. No greyhound in recent memory has been followed so closely from the start. Winning his schooling races by daylight, it was a forgone conclusion that he was going to be a force at the racetrack. Quickly running up to grade A, in just 7 starts, Double made a name for himself once he got there. Early in his career, in just his 3rd grade A starts, he started off a tear that saw him win 6 grade A races in a row. Post position could help him out, but breaking would help him out even more. Granted one can aide the other, and in his case, it does. For that most part, the outside part of the racetrack is where he wants to start from. The 6, 7, or 8, boxes could equal another strong effort. If he comes to run, he is going to be tough to beat in this final.

gotitGot It Good – (36 Points)
Career Totals (22/6-6-1-2)
Bd – M July 2015 Dragon Fire – Fastestgirlntown
Owned By – Travis or Kate Bartley
Runs for Jim Blanchard Kennel
Trained by Traci Chase

Got It Good is the only greyhound not to win a round of qualifying that made it all the way to the finals. With 3 close 2nd place efforts, he was in the mix in most of the rounds, and surprised many with finding a spot in this final round field. His best effort in qualifying came in the second round as he stalked the pace throughout and came on late to just miss winning the whole thing by a nose at the finish line. Just missing the win, he told everyone that he might just have a shot in the stakes after all. Running for the Jim Blanchard Kennel, Got it Good made the most of her first attempt at stakes racing competition and made it all the way to the finals of this race. Early he was in a good spot like most of the rest of the finalists as he climbed up to grade A in just 9 starts, but he would retreat to grade C before winning back to back races right before the rounds of the stakes. Got It Good might just be the wildcard in this effort. You never know what you are going to get, and he might just Get It Good in this one. He runs his best close to the front end early on, and the edges, especially the 1 box, would be where he would like to start from. Winning 3 of 5 starts, and that 2nd by a nose in qualifying, the red blanket is where he wants to be. No one expects him to win here, but maybe, just maybe, he was saving his best run, for the finals.

hashtagPat C Hash Tag – (35 Points)
Career Totals (38/7-4-7-6)
R – M January 2015 Ww Time Warp – Pat C Numbers
Owned By – Pat Collins
Runs for Pat Collins Kennel
Trained by Scott Jarvis

Pat C Hash Tag backed his way into the finals of the 2017 bestbet Puppy Stakes. After a strong start, which included a win and a close second place effort, Hash Tag found trouble twice and finished out of the cash in back to back efforts. Still his early success was enough for him to find a spot in the elite eight for Saturday night. Clearly his best race was in round number 1. There he fired out fast from the red box, and left the field in his dust. Stealing away a couple of lengths early on, he improved his margin throughout and passed the finish line almost 5 lengths better than the rest in a speed 30.61 trip. Hash Tag is the second greyhound in the finals for the Pat Collins Kennel and gets to try to win the crown in his first ever stakes racing competition. Hash Tag still get the underdog award in this effort as it took him 35 races to get to grade A. Since he has been competitive and has only dropped back to grade B once, and he posted up a victory in that effort, IE the first round of the stakes. Hash Tag is a strong rusher that makes or breaks his races in the early stages. If he gets room to run, he will be effective, if he finds nowhere to go, he is less effective. Once close to the lead, he can win with or without the lead, but getting close is his biggest hurdle. In this race, he will need to come out running if he hopes to stay around the big dogs for the duration. Post position, like most in this field, is favored from the edges. Put him far inside, or outside, and give him room to rush, and you never know what could happen. Sometimes the slow learner never forgets, maybe it is his turn to be the A student tonight.

Make your reservations now as seats will be hard to come by this Saturday evening at bestbet Jacksonville.

Speaking of the bestbet Puppy Stakes, let’s take a closer look at the field and how we think everything is going to play out come this Saturday evening.

  1. Pat C Hash Tag (Ww Time Warp – Pat C Numbers) is an on again off again runner that backed his way into the finals. Draws a great one box here, but must break very fast if he is going to contend against this field. Will the post be enough for him to contend?
  2. Dutch Double (Flying Hydrogen – Dutch Dinah) is the fastest greyhound in the field, and the only closer in the bunch. Tough when close early on, he has the best chance at running someone down late in this effort. Can he get close enough early on to steal the win?
  3. Ln Michaels (Vee Man Vane* – Uss Out Of Sight) is the best breaker in the field and motored through qualifying undefeated. His should be out of the box in a hurry and the one to catch on the front end once again in this effort. Can he steal enough early to hold on late and win?
  4. Ww Rowdy (Kc And All – Ww Wind Turbines) is a former grade off that has really come into his own as of late. Getting it all figured out, he will need room to rush here early if he wants to be in the conversation at the finish line. Can he keep up the good work and find a way to the rail?
  5. Got It Good (Dragon Fire – Fastestgirlintown) is the pup of this bunch that is still figuring things out of the racetrack. The post doesn’t help him, and he was the only greyhound in the finals to not to win in the qualifying rounds. Is he saving his best run for this race?
  6. Pat C Cozy (Kc And All – L’s Karla Clown) is the model of consistency, with 12 straight races in the money in a row, and tonight she gets another good outside post as well. She has the chops to take down the win, she just needs to break better. Can Pat Collins win this race for the 3rd straight year?
  7. Bambi Brake (Offthebrakedrake – Good Luck Ruby) is the overlooked greyhound in this race that could upset the field. Never out of the trifecta in qualifying, she was never worse than 2nd to the turn in any round. The outside post is good too! Can she continue to break well tonight?
  8. Ww Next Bigthing (Bella Infrared – Wwk Big Money) is the greyhound to beat in this race. With 5 straight wins, and 7 of 8, he is the real deal, but he must be in front as he has never run anyone down from behind in the stretch to win. Can he make the lead in this all early speed race?

Now for a look at how this race plays out. First, I think it is not about the post positions. Some races are, but this one comes down more to who breaks. Seven of the eight greyhound in the field all can get after it from the start, and even the other one, on occasion, can too. It is going to be crowded early and at the turn and it could come down to just who decides to show up and put the money where their mouth is early. Second, no greyhound really has a start edge, class edge, etc. Each of the greyhounds have about the same experience at the racetracks, and each has had their fair share of success and failure. Third, clearly the favorites will be the two undefeated greyhounds, but both can be beaten, they have been before, and each will need to come out in a hurry if they want to hold on against this talented field. Fourth, Pat Collins might have an edge as they have won this race the past two years in a row with Pat C Evermore in 2015 and Pat C Outbounds in 2016. They have 2 chances here and could make it a three peat.

Now for how it is all going to play out…..

As the lure bolts by the box and it pops open, I see it get crowded in a hurry. Breaking free of the rest in the first few strides will be Ln Michaels. The best early speed greyhound in the bunch, he shows what he is made of and comes to run. Also close early is the outside part of the racetrack. Ww Next Bigthing is stalking alongside with Pat C Cozy and Bambi Brake also in the mix. Dutch Double is in the conversation as well, being that he followed the big breaker from the starting box. As the head to the turn, the turn remains the same, but it is in the turn that things start to take shape. Michaels clears around on the easy lead as the outside part of the racetrack stays outside and allows room to run on the inside through the turn. As they turn up the backside, Michaels is in control as Ww Next Bigthing finds some room with Dutch Double next on the rail, followed by Pat C Cozy and Bambi Brake. Down the backside they go and into the far turn and Michaels lead as shrunk down as Ww Next Bigthing and Dutch Double come a calling. Down the stretch is gets even more interesting. Dutch Double is finding his stride and Ww Next Bigthing is not giving up just yet. Digging in deep and battling for the wire, Ln Michaels is giving his all, but the chasers are not willing to surrender to him just yet. Closer they creep to the wire, but it starting to become apparent that Dutch Double will not be denied in this race. Finding another gear, he surges past the leader and takes over command in the final few strides. Michaels must settle for a game place after a hard-fought front running effort, as Ww Next Bigthing completes the trifecta just off the leaders at the line. Pat C Cozy wins the battle for best of the rest as she extends her in the money streak to 13 straight. (2-3-8-6)

On Saturday evening June 3rd, the best puppies at the racetrack competed in the 2017 edition of the bestbet Puppy Stakes. Loads of talent were on tap as we saw history in the makings of this final round field. Leading the pack were not one, but two, undefeated greyhounds that would match up for a chance at the cash and crown in this final round race. The rest of the field were not slouches either as almost all of them won a round, or two, in qualifying and have the chops to take down the big dogs here if thing roll their way early on.

As the lure whirled through the far turn and the boxed popped open in the 11th race on the evening card, the race for the lead was on. Bambi Brake put her nose out in front and made a big statement a few strides out of the box, but that front end position would be vanquished quickly. She was not alone, several greyhounds came to break, and the rush to the first turn became a crowded one in a hurry. Pushing hard inside, Ww Rowdy, took up position alongside Bambi with Ww Next Bigthing and Pat C Hash Tag in tow. At the turn is where things got all jumbled up. Ww Rowdy used his rail position to get the lead, as Ww Next Big Thing shotgunned around the ensuing trouble and was head to head with the leader. Pat C Hash Tag was shutoff on the rail by Bambi Brake, who was clipped in the process, and that careened him outside as he collided with Got It Good, who then flew out and bumped Pat C Cozy out of the contention. Down the backside the leaders went, Ww Rowdy and Ww Next Bigthing had missed the trouble behind and separated themselves from the rest of the rivals. Rowdy opened up a length on Next Bigthing early, but by the far turn it would be a different story. Throughout the run to the far turn, Next Bigthing was on a mission to catch him kennelmate and by the far turn the 1 length lead had all but disappeared in the process. Turning for home, there were only a head apart, and the rest of the field was coming in a hurry to challenge as well. Everyone knew it was going to be an exciting finish as there were 5 greyhounds in the mix just a few lengths off the late lead. Digging in deep, Ww Rowdy did his best to keep the closers at bay, but on this occasion, it was just not going to be good enough. Ww Next Bigthing found that extra push and surged his head by the leader as they drove up the stretch. Clearly as he approached the finish line, he was easily going to win this race, as he drew away from the rest, and the focus turned to the battle for place. The closers were coming and Rowdy was trying, but in the end, it was Bambi Brake who outfinished the rest for place, as Pat C Hash Tag won the photo for show over the early leader Ww Rowdy at the wire. Stalking the place pack in 5th was Dutch Double, followed by the Ln Michaels, who missed his break and found double trouble, in 6th, Got It Good finished 7th and Pat C Cozy finished 8th.

Chart-600

Congratulations to the Wayne Ward Kennel, Owner Julia Ward, Trainer Kelly Rowell, and everyone else connected with this fantastic greyhound. Taking over at the MAN at the racetrack, Ww Next Bigthing not only went undefeated in qualifying, he won the final as well, enroot to his 6th straight victory, and his 8th in his last 9 starts. Remember this pup also finished 2nd in the $50,000 James J Patton Silver Cup and is writing himself quite a resume at the racetrack this year. He just turned 2 back in March, and has plenty of time and races ahead of him to accomplish even more. Living up to his name once again, He is the NEXT BIG THING at the racetrack. Keep your eyes peeled to bestbet Jacksonville. If he keeps up the torrid pace that he has set for himself the first half of this year, he could follow in the footsteps of several other greyhounds on our circuit, and hear his name called as one of the best in the country come January.

Another great weekend of racing ahead of us here at bestbet Jacksonville where we get top grade events over 550, 660 and 770 yards. Don’t forget we have special promotions running on Friday and Saturday in our Greyhound Summer, and the first round of the Battle of the Sexes starts on Monday. Let’s take a closer look at the races and see if we can get you cashing some tickets this weekend at bestbet Jacksonville.

Friday evening –

Race 7 – Tough to pick against the only solid grade A runner, and back to back winner, Lorine Of Ruckus. Breaking and rushing well, she should be clear of the reset early on as she proves determined for the hat trick. Prompting the pace late will be the fast closing threat Pitch Perfect. Keep an eye out for the fantastic upstart Locokristoff. What he lacks in experience he makes up for with pure talent. Hard to ignore that 30.39 clocking, and it came from the 5 box as well. Also posted well and could threaten is the recent winner Atascocita Danty. (6-3-5-2)

Race 10 – Another greyhound on a roll that could likely continue the streak in this race. Watch Me has been tearing up the racetrack on the front end winning 3 straight, and 4 of his last 6 efforts. He has a better post tonight and should be able to hold them all off again for yet another win. Pushing the leader throughout should be the rising star Ww Mind At Rest, who has 4 quinielas in a row, the cagey stakes veteran Pullanallnighter, and the well posted always around the early lead runner Gs Viola. (2-5-3-1)

Saturday matinee –

Race 7 – After running against the best at the racetrack, normal races seem easier. That’s what Ww Rowdy should be thinking here. He was the early leader in the puppy stakes and finished 4th by just a couple of lengths at the wire. Here against a field of several risers, he should be the one to beat. Trying to ruin his plans will be the always threatening presence of Nomistakeaboutit, along with the well posted recent winner Dutch Doreen, and the greyhound that seems to find the money no matter the post factor Nini’s Triple J. (4-5-3-1)

Race 11 – This might just be the toughest race of the weekend to pick. Several greyhounds are streaking, so picking just who is going to win might be a task, but if you box them, well. You must be committed, so I Will BE and pick Be Limitless. With back to back wins in grade A and 3 in her last 6 starts, she is the one to deny on this occasion. With or without the lead she can get it done, and will again here. She will not be alone though. Nacho’s Newfie has also won 3 of her last 5 trips and has been around the front in all those efforts. He draws a great box here and could decide to win again. Bambi Brake also could take home the top spot. The runner up in the recent puppy stakes, and a greyhound that has not missed the money in 6 straight, she has the chops to get it done, the only drawback is the post. Puppy power can’t be ignored either. BGR Spielberg might be new to A, but the talent is there. He could be upset minded in this effort if he clears early. (1-3-5-4)

Saturday evening –

Race 7 – Someone must break in this race and get to the early lead, but I think the real race will come in the stretch as the closers are going to be the ones that will be taking home the top prize at the wire. Another outside post and another big late effort from She Aint In It. Winning 3 of 6, all front outside, she will find a way to get up in time once again here. Threatening throughout will be the veteran stakes presence Sheezsohot. Enough early to be dangerous and enough late to steal one here and there, she will factor for the W again tonight. Setting the pace should be the rising threat Rams Twinkle, and if she can get some help behind, she might just run off too far for them to reel her in late. And don’t forget about Got It Good either. This puppy stakes finalist belongs in the conversation and is overdue for the top spot. (8-7-1-6)

Race 11 – Over to 660 for this one, and your best guess is as good as mine! LOL! Big impactful greyhound in this race and several of them have a chance to take home the top spot at the wire. Mr Tito is my pick. Coming back to 660 in his last effort he bombed to the lead and left the field in his dust. Not only did he go uncontested in that effort, he posted up at clocking of 37.11. WOW! 1 box here, needs to get midtrack, but late gears get it done. After a couple of rough outs, Boc’s Sydney looks to get back breaking and winning in this effort. The 5 spot, not so back, and if she clears, Watchout! Dutch Casey is coming off a couple of good efforts as he moved back to 660 after exiting the puppy stakes. The post is close, look for him to coming on strong late. Let’s not forget about Ww Great Wall either. This greyhound is a solid grade A performer at 660, who has been in the money in 5 of 6 races. Overdue now, she could surprise tonight.

Race 15 – Moving over even further, we get a TA 770 race to cap off the evening races. No doubt about who we take here. Regardless of the lines, we have the track record holder that this distance, Herstal, in the mix and that is enough for me. Running well as of late, with 6 straight in the money finishes, she is on top of her game and the last 770 she ran in, she WON! Look for more of the same from off the pace again tonight. Some greyhounds are just made for this and Fiesta Bonker is one! Never gets going until late over any distance. Should clear and contend here at his best distance. Pat C Galaxy was the final one winner for the 770 stakes recently and will gladly move back even further after the puppy rounds. Don’t overlook Jack’s Jet Speed either. If she can get from early from the rail, she too can contend over this route. (4-8-5-1)

Sunday matinee –

Race 11 – Another tough race, but there seems to be a few stick outs. It all depends on who wants to run today. Ship in Durable Duke has won back to back races and should flourish again from the outside post position. From the lead, or from off the pace, Duke gets home a winner. Pushing the early lead will most likely be Gs Mad Mudder. A winner of 3 in 6 races, he has been hot, but his early foot leads to him getting caught late on occasion. Today is another occasion. Lk’s Freestar is getting the mojo back with a win last time out and 4 of the last 5 starts in the trifecta. This closer will threaten late, and watch out for the veteran. Boc’s Andross has been off awhile, so rested, schooled, ready to go? If she snaps, she will dominate this field, especially from the 2 box. (8-5-3-2)

Battle of the Sexes Round 1

Another stakes race is on tap and this time we get the best GIRLS at the racetrack against the best BOYS in the 2017 edition of the Battle of the Sexes race. In rounds 1-3 the girls will race against the girls and the boys will race against the boys. No cut downs as the points are totaled up. In round 4, the semi-finals, we will have 2 races. One for the top 8 girls and one for the top 8 boys. The greyhounds that finish in the top 4 in each race will head on to the finals of the Battle of the Sexes. This final round race will take place on Saturday evening July 1st, as we get to see just who will reign supreme. The BOYS or the GIRLS at the finish line.

Round 1 will take place tonight, Monday June 12th. The second round will run on Friday June 16th, with round 3 running on Monday June 19th. The Boys and Girls semi-finals will run on Saturday evening June 24th at bestbet Jacksonville.

Let’s take a closer look at round 1 and see if we can start the week out right by picking some winners.

Round 1 of Battle of the Sexes – Monday evening June 12th

Race 7 – First BOYS race – Loads of talent here. Some early, some late, some rushing, some threatening, so who do we take? I take the posted up early speeders. Flyin Kryptonite has been breaking and running tough as of late with 3 wins in his last 6 starts in grade A. The rail post will aide in the effort. He will not be alone though as back to back stakes finalists, LN Michaels, will be looking to rebound in this effort. He has won 4 straight on route to the finals of the puppy stakes and he is a monster if he can get his nose in the lead in any race. A big break will be needed if he wants to contend again. Late the leaders better be wary of the closers. Mr Tony is rested and ready to go, and remember he won his last race from the 8 box by almost 8 lengths. Gs Humongous is no slouch either. With 6 straight in the super, and a good near midtrack post, look for him to throw his hat into the mix at the wire. (1-7-8-3)

Race 10 – First GIRLS race – I’m pretty sure who will make the early lead in this race, but I don’t know if she can last all the way to the wire for the win. We all know who the favorite will be, Hey Hey Daddy, and that is who I think will come out on top in this effort. Posted well, rested up, and off back to back wins, Daddy is as fast as she wants to be and could pound this field if she gets clear early on. I don’t think she will be in the lead early though, that spot is saved for the best breaking greyhound at the racetrack, Cj’s Sadie, but late Sadie will be no match for the power that Daddy brings. Surrendering late, place will have to do in this effort. Trying to hang in the mix will be the always threatening presence of Ww Lemon Mint, 5 straight trips in the trifecta, including some puppy stakes rounds, and you can’t forget the Ironhound Champion Boc’s Queen Lady. She hasn’t been sharp in a few efforts, but if she gets it all figured out, she could upset everyone in this race. (2-7-3-4)

Race 11 – Second GIRLS race – Another tough test for the patrons to wager on. Loads of early speed and several greyhounds that has had recent success at bestbet Jacksonville. Class still rules the day in stakes events, so we go with the greyhound that has been running tough against the best greyhounds at the racetrack. Pat C Cozy might have missed in the puppy stakes final, but she rebounded last time out from the same 5 box she has in this effort. Prior to the finals start, she has been in the money in 12 straight races. Look for her to be close early, and find a way to win tonight. Pushing for early control of this race will be Lorine Of Ruckus. WA runner of 3 of her last 6 starts in grade A, she has the skills to get it done again in this race, that is if it all goes her way early on. She is not the same greyhound without the lead, but she can close on occasion to challenge from off the pace. A big break is needed to contend here. Others to consider include the solid grade A, in the 1 box, Perfect Pitch, who has just missed in a win in 3 straight races, and the well posted, big time early speed threat, Ww’s Lost Girl. She will have a hard time holding on for the upset, but she might just be the one to catch in this effort if she decides to break. (5-7-1-8)

Race 15 – Second BOYS race – Easily the hardest race in the first round as we have all kinds of greyhounds here that can take down the win if the mood is right. With 4 stakes competitors, 3 stakes finalists, two greyhounds showing 4 race or more win streaks, and 3 others with 2 or more wins showing, this is going to be a tight one at the wire. Outside is the place you want to look in this effort. Watch Me might not have been in the puppy stakes, but with 4 wins in a row in dynamic fashion, this greyhound is the one to beat. He has a great rush to the turn and is on top of his game right now. He will need all the tools to win, and he will be pressed throughout in this effort. Ww Next Bigthing, the recent puppy stakes winner, faltered in his last effort and saw his 6-race win streak fall by the way side. No worries, he looks to start off a new one in this effort. He likes it outside and could easily pull off the win from the front or from off the pace in this effort. Let’s see if he can rebound. Pat C Hash Tag was the greyhound that finished 3rd in the puppy stakes and gets another run at the big dogs in this effort. The 5 box is just fine with him, he won last time out from here, and could surprise if he can get out and get to the rail early on tonight. Let’s not forget Dutch Double either. Sure 5th was his finish in the puppy stakes, but he was just 3 lengths off the win and a half a length off second at the wire. He is the best closer in the bunch and get his coveted 8 box in this effort. Last time out from here, he posted up a win by 5 lengths in the fastest time in puppy stakes qualifying, 30.43 seconds. If the planets are aligned, he could dominate everyone tonight. (7-6-5-8)

Round 2 of the Battle of the Sexes runs on Friday evening June 16th. All the greyhounds remain the same, so don’t miss the chance to come on out and cheer on your favorites, and get a chance at the mad, mad, money machine as well, here at bestbet Jacksonville. I will see you at the races

Blanchard Rules in Round 1

Their might just be 4 races in the rounds of the Battle of the Sexes, but the Blanchard kennel won two of those races and might be set up for a Battle of their own if they both continue to run. He won a race on the Male side and a race on the Female side, and as one was expected to get the job done, the other was a bit more of a longshot.

Watch Me took to post in the 15th race as was riding high on a 4-race win streak, but he was in tough with the several greyhounds that could make some noise and challenge for the win. As the box opened be broke close, rushed best to the turn, stole away a lead to the far turn, and survived the stretch for the slim win. A big race by the recent puppy stakes winner Ww Next Bigthing, as he chased the leader throughout and made up ground in the stretch. Dutch Double was not far off in third with a late closing effort and Bang Ludwig overcame the post and found gears late to steal away the final spot in the superfecta at the wire.

Ironhound stakes winner, Boc’s Queen Lady, was the other winner for the Blanchard kennel and that came in the 10th race on the card. Falling on hard times as of late, she has not been close early consistently in a while, but when the bright lights are on, she always shines best. Easily to the lead was the best breaker at the racetrack, Cj’s Sadie, but the problem was that Queen Lady was right on her heels. Chasing the pace to the deep stretch, she outlasted the leader late at took home the victory. Great frontrunning effort by Sadie, but just short as normal late and had to settle for place. She’s A mystery was never far off in 3rd, and race favorite Hey Hey Daddy missed her break, rallied throughout and just missed in the photo for show at the finish line.

The race of the evening came in the 11th from the Double J Kennel, Blanchard’s other booking, as Lorine Of Ruckus dominated the field as easily won the first round. Breaking close, she outrushed everyone to the turn and took a 3-length lead down the backside. She maintained that margin all the way to the far turn and late she just padded her numbers. Drawing away, she crossed almost 6 lengths better than the rest in a stakes round best time of 30.51 seconds. Chasing the leader, but not gaining on her, was Ww Mind At Rest, followed by the distance show finisher Pullanallnighter. Race favorite Pat C Cozy was even throughout, after trouble at the turn, and completed the superfecta.

The other winner came from the Ocala Kennel as Flying Kryptonite made the most of his early speed and controlled the 7th race from nearly box to wire. Out fast, he seized control of the race on the run to the turn and never looked back. Easily breezing on the front end, he kept his foes at bay and coasted around the track, and up the stretch, for a victory. Pushing the pace from the get go was Ww Jackpot. Always close, always threatening, but just not able to get by the leader for the upset. Mr Tony found gears late and make up ground in the stretch on the lead duo, but settled for show at the wire. Atascocita Danty didn’t vary that much, closed a bit, and found the last spot in the money at the wire.

Round two takes place on Friday evening June 16th at bestbet Jacksonville. All the players remain the same, the just will be running against different competitors. Pick your favorites, and score some cash this weekend and don’t forget Friday is the Mad, Mad, Money Machine too!

Battle of the Sexes Round 2

We are ready for some more stake racing action here at bestbet Jacksonville in the 2nd round of the Battle of the Sexes. The Jim Blanchard kennels dominated round 1, but the chips are back on the table for round 2 and there could be a different all in call as each greyhound is vying for more points and a chance at the finals. Four races for your Friday evening, two MALE and two FEMALE, so let’s see if we can pick you some winners to start off your weekend on the right foot.

Round 2 of the Battle of the Sexes Stakes

Friday evening June 16th, 2017

Race 7 – First MALE race – He we get the two hottest greyhounds at the racetrack matched up once again. In round number 1, Watch Me extended his 4-race win streak to 5 over the recent puppy stakes winner WW Next Bigthing. Both greyhounds have loads of talent and might just be the one to beat in this whole stake race. Tough to go against a greyhound with 5 straight, so I won’t, Watch Me to Win, but it would not surprise me much if Ww Next Bigthing will break better and pull off the upset in this effort. Either way this should be the best quiniela of the weekend. Others to consider in this one are the well posted 3rd place finisher in the puppy stakes Pat C Hash Tag, and you never know when Ln Michaels is going to wake up and decided to break. On the lead, he is as good as anyone in the stakes. Maybe the 2 box will help him find the front end tonight and challenge on the lead. (5-4-3-2)

Race 10 – First FEMALE race – In this one we get to see two first round winners match up. Lorine Of Ruckus and Boc’s Queen Lady, both from one of the Blanchard’s kennels took top the top spot in the first round of qualifying, but each got there in a different way. Lorine is best when near the early lead and she got there in a hurry in that first round race. Boc’s Queen Lady, who was the Ironhound champion, stalked her rival to the stretch and then hit the gas as she surged by for the upset. Tonight, that is how I see things playing out once again. No big early speed here, no reason for Lorine not to make the lead, but she will not be alone throughout like last time. Queen Lady stalks again and makes it interesting at the wire. Play them like you wish, slight edge in my opinion to Lorine. Watch out for Stakes Veteran She’s A Mystery. Third in round 1 and tonight she has the best post she has had in 6 races. Perfect Pitch might throw her hat into the ring as well. Rough outing in the first round, looking to rebound here, before that effort, 5 straight in the money in grade A. (6-7-3-4)

Race 11 – Second MALE race – Post position, post position, post position. That is the calling card for this effort. Sure, I’m going out on a bit of a limb, but a couple of things influenced my choice. Clear Lakes is tearing up the track this week, and Bang Ludwig is as fast as he wants to be from the outside. Don’t expect much from the rail, we saw what happened in the puppy stakes, but outside he is a monster. Just look back 4 races to his last 8 box. Breaking to the lead and running off and hiding from a field as he stopped the clock at a blistering 30.25 second 8 length romp. Bigger names and better finishers are also here, and they might put up enough effort to win, but I line LUDWIG. Pressuring for sure will be the first-round winner, and big time early speeder, Flyin Kryptonite. He might even see the lead, but late he will be no match for the closer. Speaking of closers, Dutch Double is also in this race, but without the outside he could have troubles winning too. You know he will be closing throughout in this race, but will it just be too late to win again? We’ll See! Don’t overlook Ww Jackpot either. A rising star who just missed in round 1 and has 5 trifecta finished in his last 6 efforts. He can break and close and could be a double threat in this one. (8-6-2-1)

Race 15 – Second FEMALE race – Cj’s Sadie did her part in round 1 of the stakes, you know breaking best, stealing a lead, pushing the pace all the way to the stretch before surrendering at the wire for place. Tonight, you will probably get the same effort from here. She is the best breaker at the racetrack, in my opinion, but she pays dearly for it late. On a fast track, she can steal some wins, but tonight she must race against a former stakes winner, Hey Hey Daddy. Daddy didn’t break in round 1 and that was her demise. She continued to gain throughout, but it was too little too late. More midtrack tonight, she should be feeling more at home in the 3 box and should find her break and outlast the front runner for the win. Watch out for the super talented pup Ww Mind At Rest. With 7 quinielas in 9 starts, including her last 6 in a row. She must be considered a threat to win this effort, especially from a great rail starting post. Never count out Pat C Cozy either. After she saw her 12 races in a row in the money streak come to an end in the puppy stakes final, she rebounded with a win, and an even running after trouble effort in round 1. She has a good starting box and could be poised for an upset in this race. (3-5-2-8)

There will be no cut down for round 3 as all the greyhounds will return for one final try at a win and some more valuable points on Monday June 19th. After that round is run, the top 8 point getters for the MALE and FEMALE divisions will run in the gender semi-finals on Saturday evening June 24th. The top 4 finishers in each semis will move on to the finals on Saturday evening July 1st at bestbet Jacksonville.

Watch, Lorine Lead the Way

Through two rounds of the 2017 Battle of the Sexes, two greyhounds have separated themselves from the rest of the pack with back to back wins. Watch me posted up his 6th win in a row on the MALE side of the equation, and Lorine of Ruckus took home another victory on the FEMALE side. Both greyhounds have made quick work of their competitors and could be looking for a big time match up in the finals.

Watch Me started off the evening in fine fashion in the 7th race on the card. Breaking closer, he battled up the front stretch and stole away the lead at the first turn from speedster Ln Michaels. By a head over the rest early, he expanded on that total to the far turn. There he was 3 lengths ahead of Michaels and turned home in no real danger of losing. The closes came a calling, but no one was going to get to him before the wire. Breezing to the line, he easily won by 2.5 lengths in 30.88 seconds. Tnt Below Zero came on strong late for place, as Atascocita Danty overtook Ln Michaels from well off the pace to secure the final spot in the trifecta. Early leader Ln Michaels had to settle for 4th.

Not to be outdone, Lorine of Ruckus also kept her stakes streak intact with a stellar performance in the 10th race. Breaking slowly, she found room to rush and took advantage of all the trouble around her. Making the lead at the turn, she took command down the backside. Drawing away to the far turn, she maintained her margin all the way to the wire for the 2-length win in 30.76 seconds. As expected, first round winner and Ironhound champ, Boc’s Queen Lady chased the pace throughout after trouble and finished a came second. Perfect Pitch was also in the mix just a few lengths off the winner, but last the photo for place and had to settle for show. Lk’s Hopscotch came from last at the first turn to close into the superfecta at the finish line.

The race off the evening though came in the 11th race on the card. Hitting the lid and taking control early was Bl Warlock. Normally that would have been a win for sure, but the problem was that Dutch Double also broke well. Warlock stole the lead by a half a length at the turn, increased to a length at the far turn and fought hard all the way to the wire to try and win this effort. Dutch Double was having none of that. Closing from 3rd early, he was 2nd by the far turn, and in the stretch, he was just a determined rocket that was not going to take no for an answer. He dug in deep for one final surge and headed his way by at the wire for the win. Warlock gave a winning trip, but was outgamed at the line and had to accept place. Ww Jackpot also made up ground throughout and stole away 3rd in the stretch over the always chasing threat Bang Ludwig.

Capping off the card, another familiar name posted up a victory. Former stakes winner, Hey Hey Daddy, found her mojo and ran a huge race to steal away the win at the finish line. We all knew just who was going to dominate this race early, CJ’s Sadie, but like always she only gets to lead to the stretch. She rocketed to the lead and stole 3 lengths on the field and held that margin all the way to the stretch. Still he wasn’t enough to hold off the closers. Down the stretch it turned into an all-out battle for the win. The top three competitors all finished within a length at the wire and it would take a photo to separate them. Hey Hey Daddy proved best by a half a length over the also closing factor Ww Mind At Rest. Cj’s Sadie had to settle for 3rd as she just outlasted the chasing Pat C Cozy for the finish spot in the trifecta.

The 3rd round of the 2017 Battle of the Sexes race will take place on Monday evening June 19th at bestbet Jacksonville. All greyhounds will return and the top 8 greyhounds in the male and female division will move on to the semi-finals on Saturday evening June 24th.
