In a stake, final field full of puppies and newcomers, no one took the bull by the horns better than Ln Michaels in his first attempt at stakes racing competition. Using his blazing early speed, Michaels took over command of 3 races early on and in each of those efforts he reported a win at the wire. He was the only greyhound in the field to win more than 2 rounds and his determination on the front end was on full display in the third round of the stakes. Breaking close, he outrushed everyone to the front end and took over command of the race at the first turn. Down the backside, he rumbled, and even though they chipped away at the margin, he still controlled the race as they turned for home. Digging in deep on the front end with a stellar field nipping at his heels, Michaels refuses to lose. Holding strong all the way to the wire, he scored a determined victory to remain undefeated through three rounds of the stakes. Michaels is the only stakes finalist for the Double J Kennel and he has some added weight on his shoulders in this effort. They won this race last year with Ln Houdini, and Michaels has a chance to put up back to back Patton wins on the books for not only the kennel, but the owner, Kenneth Lane, and Stud dog, Vee Man Vane*, as well. He is a solid breaker, but a bit of a rusher so I’m sure he would like to start on the edges in this final round race. He prefers the inside to the outside the one box might just be the place to be for him at the start. In four lifetime races from that starting box, he has NEVER lost! That’s right perfect is the one to explain it. His key to success in this effort is forgetting his last effort, where he found trouble and finished out of the money, and breaking and rushing just like he did in rounds 1 thru 3. If he can see the lead, they are going to be hard pressed to catch him before the finish line in this one.

Boc’s Andross has been around bestbet longer than any other greyhound in this final round field and she gets to compete in her 3rd stakes final in 5 attempts for the Blanchard Kennel. No greyhound was more consistent as Andross in qualifying as she never missed the quiniela and saved her best run for when she needed it the most, the semi-finals. There she put it all on display. Beating the box, she jumped out to an early lead and stole away a few early lengths on the rest of the field. Keeping up the pace, she turned for home with an easy lead, but saw the evaporate in a hurry as she approached the finish line. Doing all she could, she survived the late charge and held on by a head at the wire for the win that pushed her into this final round field. With Andross you know what you are going to get in this stakes final. Another hard-trying effort! She has been in the money in 17 races in a row and 26 of her last 28 starts. Clearly her early speed and determination are her best attributes and they will be on display again in this race. She would love to have a rail post to break from in this effort, but she has had success from the outside as well. Either could forward her case for a victory tonight. Her key to success is getting out of the box and having room to run early on. If she gets clear, she will be a big player for the win at the wire.

Big things were expected from Js Armdndangerus from the get go, as he rocketed up the grading ladder and won the 2016 Male Maiden stakes event back in December. So, it’s not a surprise that we see him here in the finals of this race. This pup parlayed a win, a pair of seconds, and a third-place finish into a trip to the finals of the Patton Silver Cup in his very first attempt at stakes racing competition. This Lester Raines quick breaking, hard rushing, runner has won several top-grade races, and her true racing form was best on display in round number two. Coming out close, he stalked the pace of the leader to the far turn and then made his move. Driving on by, he took over control of the race and kept his foot on the gas all the way to the wire for the victory. Another consistent greyhound, Js Armdndangerus has only missed the money on three occasions in her 24 career starts, and in 15 of those trips he has posted up victories against some of the best greyhounds at the racetrack. He has blazing early speed and when he gets his nose in front, the race is already over. He has never been run down from behind in an official race, and could keep the streak intact if he hits the lid again in this one. He is a strong rail runner that will covet the inside posts, but would not be too disappointed if he draws far outside as well. Clearly the key to his success in this effort is the BREAK! If he comes out like he can, he will be a force from start to finish in this effort, and if he finds the lead, the race might just be for place tonight.

Talk about stepping up when the pressure is on you’re the most. Well that is just what Ww Next Bigthing did to make it into his first stakes race final in his very first attempt against the best at the racetrack. This Wayne Ward runner fared ok in the rounds with a win, and fourth, and a fifth-place effort, but come the semi-finals he knew he was going to have to win to make it in, and that my friends is just what he did. Breaking quickly from the middle of the racetrack, Next Bigthing wasted no time to get to the lead. Rushing past the rest, he seized an almost 4 length lead, and never looked back. Cruising around the racetrack he maintained his margin to the stretch, and then decided that he would make it even bigger by the time that they hit the wire. Crossing the line almost 6 lengths better than the rest, he made a statement to the rest of the final round field that they better not forget about him come post time. Easily this even racing threat is not going to run anyone down from a mile behind, but he can stay strong on the front end, or hold his position throughout almost any race. Post could help a bit with his effort, and if he had to choose, the midtrack ones would be a favorite spot. Really though his break is the key to his success. If he can get out quickly and clear on the lead, he is a whole different runner. Tonight, against this talented field, with it all on the line, he just needs to find the break, and the ice in his veins like last time out, and he could be an upset winner at the wire.

Another surprise greyhound to make it into the mix was Boc’s Queen Lady. A solid runner, Queen Lady took her win, her pair of places, and a fifth-place effort and used them to find her a spot in the finals for the Blanchard kennel in her first try in stakes racing competition. This talented closer put her late gears to good use in round number 3 to win, but it was the break that set her up for the victory. She was close for her early, you know 4th out of the box, and rushed up to stalk the leaders at the turn. She continued to gain and saw her nose get in front at the far turn as she padded her numbers all the way to the wire for the easy victory. Queen Lady might not be the flashy star that other stakes finalist might be, or have gaudy numbers to her credit, but she is a consistent threat that always seems to find a way into the money and make her presence know at the finish line. Room is what she really needs over any post position, but if she must pick one, something from the inside to midtrack posts would suit her just fine. Unlike the rest, her break is not the only key to her success. Granted she can’t be too far behind early on, but if she is in the conversation at the start, she has gears that can be a difference maker for her late in the race. If she can find room to run early, she might have a chance to run down all the early speeder late in this effort.

Another strong closer in the field, Ww’s Marsala just kept on coming in each and every start in the qualifying and found her way into the trifecta in all of her trips. This Wayne Ward ship in from Wheeling had found a new home at bestbet Jacksonville and has shown that she is a hard-trying late driving threat in every time she steps onto the racetrack. With a trio of third place finishes to go alone with her solo win, she secured herself a spot in the finals in her very first attempt. Clearly the best effort she put up in qualifying came in round number three, where frankly, she just refused to lose. Breaking slowly, she rushed up close at the turn and chased the pace to the stretch. Off in second she still had work to do as they approached the finish line, but she picked the right time to POUR on the juice as she got up in time to win the photo finish at the wire. Marsala is a midtrack runner that prefers to start on the outside part of the racetrack. Most her best efforts have come from here, so I think that it would be a great place for her to start from in this effort. Her key to success is staying out of trouble. She has closing gears that several greyhounds in this race don’t have, but she needs to be around early and have room, to use them late. With a good start, no lead may be safe in this effort.

Wiki Jax Attack is a bit of a hot and cold running greyhound that can really dominate races when he makes it to the early lead. All you have to do is look at the qualifying rounds of the stakes to see exactly what I mean. Wiki Jax Attack took home a pair of front running wins, along with his 4th and 7th place finishes, to secure himself a spot in the finals. This Lester Raines runner has recently joined us from Tri-State and has done ok so far over the oval at bestbet Jacksonville. This was his first stakes event and he made it all the way to the final round race. Like several others in this field, he too needed to step up late to make the finals and his semi-final race might just be his best since arriving. Breaking out quickly, he was in instant control of that effort. Drawing out to a 3-length lead at the turn, he breezed around the racetrack without a care on the lead and left the field comfortably behind him. Coasting all the way to the wire for the 3-length victory. Post position plays a big role in his effort. The right post, he breaks better, and his effort level is increased. So, when does that happen? What is the post? The 8 box or almost any other one outside! He loves it out there and really gives his all from those starting boxes. From the 6 box, out he has an OP career record of 9/5-1-1-1. Only out of the money once and 5 win in 9 starts. The key to success here will be getting out of the starting box! He is a whole different runner with his nose in the lead, and if he gets there again tonight, you might just see another box to wire romp as he takes down the cash and the cup at the wire.

Last but certainly not least in the finals of the 2017 James J Patton Silver Cup is Real Good Feelin. The only returning finalist for this race, Feelin overcame some rough trips to find the final spot in the mix for Saturday evening. She is easily the most experienced runner in this race as she has been competing in her 7th stakes event for the DQ Williams Kennel and this race will be her 5th stakes final. With experience in spades, she needs to just find a way around the racetrack unscathed and she will be a big part of this picture at the wire. Round number 1 of the stakes was a good example of this. There she broke close, drove up into contention at the turn, took over down the backside, and drew away late for the easy victory. Feelin can win from on, of off, the early pace and might just be the most complete greyhound in this field. She easily has the best raw speed of the bunch and must not be forgotten about just because she straggled into the field in the final spot. Post position could help her effort in this final too. She has run well from several post positions, mainly on the edges, but the outside is where she wants to break from. In her last 25 races from the 7 or 8 boxes, she has won 17 times and has been finished in the quiniela in 21 occasions. The key to her success, like many of the rest, is to get out of the box well, get room early, and just do what you do. If she is in contention early, she may prove unstoppable once again in this race.
