Orange Park Derby Round 2

Lester Raines Kennel was the big winner in round 1, but there are still a ton of points available in round 2 for a greyhound to accumulate to move on to the quarter-finals. Will the first-round winners continue their success? Will new names throw their hats into the mix? Or, will the greyhounds that missed out in round 1, find their mojo again? All questions will be answered in round 2 of the $35,000 Orange Park Derby.

Friday Evening October 27th, 2017

Race 7 – First round winner Lee Trinity looks like the greyhound to beat again in this race. She has the best early speed of this bunch and should be unabated to the early lead again. Hanging on late, she will be tough to reel in before the wire. Pushing the leader for most of this race should be her next-door neighbor, CBJ Sooner. This solid grade A will try to improve on a 4th place effort in round 1. Others to consider include the well posted threat, Businessasusual, and the on again, off again, runner Like A Boss From a good outside post position. (4-5-2-7)

Race 9 – More continued success as another first round winner gets the nod in this effort. Lk’s Fanciful is one of two solid grade A’s in this race, and with the early rush and a good post position, she could be tough to take down once again tonight. Lee Banshee is a good closer that will make the most of the outside starting box in this effort. Just missing in her last two in a row, she will be a late threat to the winner in this effort. Watch out early for the quick breaking Rt Banana Foster that can steal the lead, and the win, on occasion. Coming off a big race, it would be a miss not to mention Hustle It Upgirl. This late driving threat could be tough if she can get through the early traffic and find room to close in the stretch. (3-6-2-4)

Race 11 – Forget the last race, time for the true champion to show up and run. Lk’s Centuria was in the lead and in control, until she found trouble in both turns in the first-round race. Here I expect her to get back to business as usual. Hitting the lead, stealing a lead, and coasting home for the victory. Trying to ruin her plans will be the always in the money stretch threat, Dutch Casey, along with the stretch rushing factor Super C Amy. Even though she missed in round 1, watch out for Good Luckchigger as well. If he wants to run, and gets some room, he could challenge for the win in the deep stretch tonight. (7-2-8-3)

Race 13 – Rebound time for B’s Villantnight as well. Most of the time a 4th is not a big race, but his in round 1 was a gem. Crowded at the break and shuffled to last, he could have given up, but he closed throughout and managed to make it interesting in the stretch. Here I expect him to be closer early and for him to overpower everyone late for the W.  The early leader should be Ww’s Jax Straw. Posted well on the rail, with the best early speed, she will lead to the stretch, but late all that early foot will cost her as she finished 2nd once again. Others to content with should be the solid grade A 660 threat Dutch Aces Wild, and the converted Sprinter Kells Pretender should factor with the leaders early and hold on somewhere in the superfecta at the wire. (5-1-3-4)

Race 15 – The toughest of the races on the card features 3 first round winners and each has a shot here at repeating those efforts. Each won their races from off the pace, so it could come down to who can close the best in the stretch to get the job done. In that case, you must go with Herstal over Boc’s Queen Lady and Nizy. The first two have won stakes, Herstal over 770, and Boc’s Queen Lady was the Ironhound Champ, so they know how to get things done. Nizy is a newcomer to the route and the stakes scene and still has something to prove to the rest of the crowd. All the greyhound will have to catch Gs Humongous if they want to win this effort. This converted Sprinter took the field to the wire in round one and settled for place by a nose at the wire. Another round another strong front running effort, but in the end, the closers will be too much for him to handle. I think Herstal outlast Queeny for the win, with Humongous getting caught and holding off Nizy at the finish line. (6-3-4-8)

The third round, the quarter-finals, of the Orange Park Derby will feature 4 races and will run on Monday evening October 30th at bestbet Jacksonville.

Queen Looking for Another Crown

Boc’s Queen Lady is the only greyhound left undefeated in the 2017th running of the Orange Park Derby. Breaking close in the 15th race, she chased the leader to the far turn and then turned on the juice. Bolting by and taking command, she drove home with a furious rush and left the field in her wake. Crossing 5.5 lengths better than the rest in 37.80 seconds, Boc’s Queen Lady has put herself in the driver’s seat once again for a stakes title in 2017. (In case you forgot, she won the Ironhound Stakes earlier this year.) Early leader Gs Humongous had enough late to survive the late charge of Nizy and win the photo for place. Completing the superfecta was the always gaining Herstal.

The rest of the fields were not as lucky as the bombs went off and the longshots came a running. Spreading out the rest of the points behind her, they are going to be hard pressed to get Queeny out of the finals, if she continues her red-hot efforts.

The other big winner on the card was the Clear Lake Racing kennel. Posting up a pair of wins in the 6 efforts on the card, they were the kennel KING in round number 2. The first win came in the 9th race as Rt Banana Foster came out running. From the start of this one, Gs Ellice and Banana were in an all-out battle for early command of this effort. Ellice got the nod early, but couldn’t hang on to it by the far turn. Neither greyhound gave up, and even though Ellice was passed and Banana took over in the far turn, she was a threat all the way to the finish line. Crossing with just a length between then at the wire, Banana came out on top and Ellice had to settle for place. Jack’s Jet Speed closed hard throughout and overtook the chasing Nb’s Parishilton in the deep stretch to steal away the show position at the finish line.

Clear Lake also took home the top spot in the 11th race on the card. Cbj Thunderbolt left no doubt who was the best greyhound on this occasion. Popping the box, Thunderbolt struck to the lead and never looked back. Catching the breeze in the open air, he dominated from the get go and was never challenged in this effort. Coasting all the way around the racetrack, he was almost 6 lengths clear of the rest at the finish line, in a box to wire effort in 37.73 seconds. Taking next best was the always gaining Super C Amy, followed by the steady chasing Boc’s All I Got, and the even running in the money factor Dutch Casey.

The quickest effort of the night belonged to Dutch Aces Wild in the 13th race. Breaking behind the big-time speeder, Ww’s Jax Straw, and the converted sprinter Bgr Benny Da Jet, Aces Wild has his work cut out for him in this effort. Ww’s Jax Straw drew off on the rest early on and stole 4 lengths before everyone else knew what was going on. But that was short lived as the chasers came a running, and by far turn those lengths had dwindled down to just one as they turned for home. Shifting gears in the stretch Aces Wild would not be denied in this effort. Driving by the leaders late, he cleared by a length at the wire and stopped the clock at a blazing 37.69 seconds. Benny Da Jet settled for place as Jax Straw held on for the easy show at the finish line. Completing the money spots was the even running Kells Pretender.

And finally, was the winner from the Falcon Kennel, Critics Choice. Hard fought effort is a good way to describe the victory in the 7th race on the card. Breaking quickly, she took over from the instant she saw the box open and never looked back. Early she had just over a length on the rest of the field, but that was not going to be how she finished this race. Increasing steadily all the way to the wire, she stretched that margin a step at a time and finished 2.5 lengths ahead of her rivals at the finish line in 37.98 seconds. Applying pressure late was the steady gaining threat Businessasusual. Third went to the early factor Dutch Ranger, who pushed the pace in the early stages and ran out of gas a bit in the stretch. Like A Boss finished 4th with a strong closing effort. Starting out in last, Boss found some room and some extra drive in the second half of the race. Gaining with every stride late, he just missed in a photo for show at the finish line.

The field will be trimmed down for the quarter-finals and only the top 32 greyhounds will get a chance to acquire more points and have a chance to move on in the finals. After round two, the points are spread out in 2nd through 8th place, and there are several greyhounds left with a chance to throw their name into the mix before the semi-finals. Don’t miss out this Monday at bestbet Jacksonville in round number 3.

Queeny Highlights Round 3

After round number two just one greyhound remains undefeated, Boc’s Queen Lady, which means that the points have spread out a bit for the remaining finalists. Several greyhounds now have a win in either round 1 or 2, and if they parlay that with a big-time effort here in the quarter-finals, they could position themselves well heading on throughout the stakes. Time for the 3 rounds of action. Thirty-four greyhounds remain, 4 races, each with a chance. Let’s see just who is up for the challenge here on Monday evening, October 30th, at bestbet Jacksonville!

Round 3 of $35,000 Orange Park Derby

Monday evening, October 30th, 2017

Race 7 – Looking to rebound after a first round win, and a 2nd round 5th, Lk’s Fanciful must get room early on if she is going to have a chance to win this effort. Working for her is that her next-door neighbor, Gs Humongous will be out fast and setting the pace in this effort. Look for him to stay strong to the stretch on the lead. Fanciful chases throughout and gets the job done near the finish line. Others to watch out for her include the hot off a win last time out, and 5 of 6 in the money 660 runner, Dutch Aces Wild, and you can never count out the late effort of the former 770 track record holder, Herstal! (3-2-7-6)

Race 9 – This one might just come down to who gets out fast and wants the lead. Only two greyhounds in the field have won so far in the stakes, and each came on a front running effort. So, it looks like you get your pick of Lee Trinity and Rt Banana Foster. Both greyhounds looked tough in front early, but neither are the same when they don’t see the lead early on. Foster is a bit more of a chaser, so I give the edge to Trinity as she has more experience over the distance and has a better suited post position. This duo will not be alone early as Gs Ellice is also a strong front running threat, and everyone better pay attention late to Dutch Ranger from the outside. Not a big closer, but has enough left in the tank to take down the leaders if he is in the conversation early on. (4-6-3-7)

Race 11 – Several greyhounds in this race have a chance at the W in this effort, but we look at the recent success and that list narrows down to just a couple of greyhounds. Critics Choice is coming off a big win last time out and has the early speed that no one else in this race possess. She is posted well again midtrack and should be long gone early on for back to back W’s. Chasing the pace and trying to gain on the leader, just like in their last race, will be Businessasusual. The one box is a kind place to start, and if he breaks at all, he will factor at the finish line. Don’t sleep on the outside part of the racetrack either. Solid grade A super closer, Lee Banshee, will find his lane late and challenge, along with the 5 times in the money in her last 6 races runner that is Jack’s Jet Speed. (4-1-7-8)

Race 15 – Capping off the evening is the only unbeaten greyhound in the field. Boc’s Queen Lady looks for 3 straight wins, and I think she can get it done in this effort. No doubt the early lead will be reserved for Ww’s Jax Straw. This blazing box breaker is tough to the far turn, so much so, as she has not been beaten to that spot in 6 straight races, but she pays for it in the end as she has been run down the 3 of those 6 efforts, including both rounds of the stakes so far. Right next door to Queeny, she takes the pace, but surrenders for the third time in a row as the Queen remains supreme. On again, off again, runner CBJ Thunderbolt could have a chance at the upset here too. Winning last time out in Box to Wire Fashion from the same starting box, he has a shot, but he must break well to contend. For sure count on Dutch Casey to be in the money. With 6 straight trips in the top 4 positions at the wire, you know this closer will find a way to the superfecta somehow. (3-4-1-8)

The field will be trimmed down once again for the semi-finals which will run on Saturday evening November 4th at bestbet Jacksonville. Three fields of greyhounds will compete for the final 8 spots in the finals. So, don’t miss out on the best routers running this week at bestbet Jacksonville in the $35,000 Orange Park Derby.

Spreading It Around

Another round of the 2017 Orange Park Derby is in the books and the points got spread around even more as several unexpected greyhounds seized their opportunity with box to wire wins. Three of the four winners were not posted as favorites and that makes it extra interesting heading in the semi-final round races. Everyone left in the stakes is just a win out of the current top 8 spots, so this could turn into an eventful lead-up to the finals.

Rebounding to their first-round dominance was the Lester Raines Kennel. Winning two of the four races on the card in box to wire fashion, finishing one and two speed wise on the night, these were stellar performances. The best effort came from first round winner Nizy. In race 15 she beat the box, stole a lead, saw it shrink by the far turn, and gave a determined stretch run to pull away late for the slim win at the wire. The comment says it all, “Not To Be Denied”. Dutch Casey rallied late and stole away the place position at the wire for the chasing, and race favorite, greyhound Boc’s Queen Lady. Early threat Cbj Thunderbolt held on for fourth after fading back in the stretch.

The other winner came in the 11th race as Lee Banshee won a personal duel on the front end. Breaking close, well actually 2nd, he rushed hard through the turn to take over the early lead at the first call. Putting 2 lengths between him, and his early rival Businessasusual, there at the moment he was not going to be denied in this effort. Coasting around the racetrack on the lead, he maintained his margin to the far turn and all the way through to the wire. Businessasusual broke well, but was outrushed for the front end. He gave his all throughout, and even though he couldn’t gain on the leader, he was the only real threat in this effort. A distance closing show went to Cbj Sooner was Royal Clarion came back some in the stretch for the final spot in the superfecta.

Getting stronger with every start, Gs Humongous is liking the new surroundings over 660 yards. In rounds one, and two, he led for most of the race to only be run down in the final few strides. Not this time out! Breaking on top in race 7, he drew away two full lengths early on and never looked back. Don’t get me wrong, he was pressed throughout, but was not going to be run down on this occasion. Lasting all the way to the wire, as several jockeyed for position behind him in the stretch, Gs Humongous proved unstoppable at the finish line. Closing from way back, Lk’s Fanciful found the rail, and her stride late in the race to close past the chaser for place at the finish line. Kells Pretender gave a great effort and pushed the leader all the way to the stretch. Outfinished at the wire, Pretender settled for show. Also in the mix was Herstal. After being blocked on a run in the far turn, she rallied again and completed the superfecta in this effort.

The final stakes race on the card, the 9th, was won by Pat C Typhoon.  Popping the box, Typhoon seized immediate control of the race and didn’t slow down until he was past the finish line. Sure, his lead might have gotten smaller as he went around the racetrack, but he still won by a length and was not far off the fastest times on the card. He did want he needed to do to score a win, and 19 points, at the wire. Dutch Dalton gave a great effort, but came up just short at the finish line. Breaking close, he gave chase at the leader early and chipped away at his lead the entire way around the racetrack. Closing from 3 lengths back, he made the leader work hard to get the win, even though he didn’t quite get the job done. The even paced steady threat Rt Banana Foster was third, as Boc’s All I Got closed some to secure the 4th place spot at the finish line.

Once again, the field will be trimmed down and only the top 24, 3 races, will move on for a chance at the finals. The semis will take place on Saturday evening November 4th, so make you plans and don’t miss out on the best routers at the racetrack here at bestbet Jacksonville.

Semi-Finals Orange Park Derby

It’s the last chance to earn some points and a spot in the coveted finals of the 2017 $35,000 Orange Park Derby. Just 24 greyhounds remain, 3 races, and there are several that could earn their way into the mix with a big effort in the semi-finals. Let’s take a closer look at the races and see if we can get you cashing some tickets this weekend at bestbet Jacksonville.

Orange Park Derby Semi-finals Saturday evening, November 4th, 2017

Race 7 – This is an interesting race where several greyhounds could make a name for themselves. Everyone in this race has the ability to win the race. All eight contestants have finished either first or second in one of the rounds of the Orange Park Derby this year, so this one could come down to just who wants to win the most. One thing is for sure, I think we know who is going to set the early pace in this effort. Ww’s Jax Straw might have found trouble at the start last time out, but previous to that she had not been beat to the lead in 6 straight efforts. In this one, she is alone outside and there is absolutely no one here that can match her from the starting box. She will be unabated to the lead, but can she hold on and win? That is the true question on the evening. For me, It’s a NO! First round winner Lk’s Fanciful gets an ideal rail starting box and is looking to secure her spot in the finals. She has gears late and should be stalking the leader in the early stages of this effort. All she needs to do is be in the conversation in the first half, and the second half will take care of itself. She will not be alone chasing though as Dutch Dalton should be right alongside of her coming home. Dalton is liking the new distance is not missing a beat as he continues to close in every start. He seems to like the post and just missed last time out from the very same blue blanket. If he gets loose early on, he too could be upset minded at the finish line. Last but certainly not least is Super C Amy. This girl can come home with the best of them late in the race and could circle the whole field and steal away the win at the wire if the mood suits her. She is almost midtrack here, in the 3 box, and could have a surprise waiting for the leaders at the wire. Time to put up or shut up, as she might be saving that best run in the rounds for this semi-final race. (1-2-7-3)

Race 9 – Recent success is the way to describe the 9th race and that is who should continue to shine in this effort. Nizy might just be the surprise of the stakes as this converted router has taken to the route like a fly to honey. She has never finished out of the trifecta, she has won 2 of the 3 races so far, and finds herself tied for the point lead heading into this semi-final round race. She is a great stalking closer that should be close early in a race void of big time early speed factors. Post might be a bit of a deterrent, but not all that important as both of her wins have come from the outside part of the racetrack. Determination late is the key for her winning this effort. This race will not be a runaway though, fellow round 3 winners loom and could take home back to back victories too if things go their way. Lee Banshee finally got out of the box in his last start and that was enough for him to control the race throughout and get the coveted 19 points at the wire. He is a solid grade A racer over 660 yards and can get the job done from on or off the pace. I expect him to break well again, and be a threat throughout in this effort. Another greyhound that has taken well to the added distance is Pat C Typhoon. Blowing up a storm in his last trip, Typhoon hit the lid and never looked back. On the front end, he saw his margin dwindle to the wire, but he held strong late and denied the closers at the line for the victory. He looks to be a bit short over the added distance and that could cost him once again in this effort. He has a great post position though, and with some help behind early on, he too could be in line for yet another win in the rounds. If you are looking for a late driving greyhound to finish off the superfecta, then look no further that the former 770 track record holder, Herstal. Not missing the top 4 spots in all 3 rounds, including a win in round 1, she is late charging factor that no one, even the closers, want to deal with. Clearly, she has the best raw speed in the bunch, i.e. 37.23 as a best time, but she needs to be close early to use that late speed to advantage. If she sits early and waits to the second half to use those afterburners, she will round out the superfecta, and not challenge for the win here. So, tonight, if she wants to make it into the final round field, she must get out of the box in a hurry. Just like she did in round 1, from this very same post position. (8-3-4-1)

Race 11 – Saving the best for last, the 11th race could be titled, BATTLE ROYAL! All kinds of talent in this race as we get 4 greyhounds that have won a round, or two, along with three other greyhounds that has not missed the money in any of their races during the stakes. Topping the pack is a greyhound that has already won a distance stakes this year. Boc’s Queen Lady was the winner of the 2017 Ironhound Stakes and has already won a pair of races in the rounds. She can break on occasion, but like most of her efforts over any distance, she come from off the pace to win. Good news for her, but bad news for the greyhound that is looking to steal a lead and hold on late to score. Gs Humongous has shown some great early speed since converting to the longer distance, but the quarter-finals was the first time that he held on late for a victory. It also happened to be his best time to date, and maybe he is just now figuring it all out over the longer course. It’s not like he has been running bad, he has been in the money in 5 straight trips, he is just a bit short late and has been surrendering at the finish line. Tonight, it should be more of the same. Hitting the lid, leading the way to the stretch, and getting outfinished for the win. Another greyhound to consider is Businessasusual. Starting off the stakes he might not have been a name to think about, but with 3, count them, 3 second place finishes in a row, he must be considered a factor once again in this effort. He has thrived from those inside posts and gets another on here in this effort. Even though he possesses a little bit of late speed, he will need to break close to keep up the in the money streak in this race. Don’t forget about Dutch Casey from the rail either. This greyhound has not missed the money in any of her last 6 races, and that includes three trips against the best at the racetrack. This post might be a problem, as he wants to be midtrack, but he might find room as he doesn’t start to close until the second half of the race. He will need a victory to have a shot at the finals, so let’s see just what he can muster up in this effort. (4-5-3-1)

After this round the field will be set with the top 8 finishers moving on to the finals of the $35,000 Orange Park Derby on Saturday evening November 11th at bestbet Jacksonville. Post positions will be draw on Wednesday November 8th, and we will run our dash for cash promotion, and our second chance drawing promotions that Saturday evening. Another great stake racing final is upon us here at bestbet Jacksonville. The 2017 edition of the $35,000 Orange Park Derby will run this Saturday evening, November 11th, in the 11th race on the card, in conjunction with our dash for cash promotion and our second chance drawings. Loads of fun to be had by all, so let take a closer look at the finalist and just how this final round race will play out.

Greyhounds in post-position order.

  1. Rt Banana Foster (Djays Octane – Shelley) has really stepped things up since returning from Southland. A strong stalking threat, she can steal the lead on occasion, but can be caught from behind as well. The post could work for her here, but a huge break will be needed to contend.
  2. Boc’s Queen Lady (Kc And All – Boc’s Snow Queen) is the only stakes champ in the bunch. The winner of the 2017 Ironhound Stakes, she can close over any distance and with 2 wins in 4 qualifying starts, she is still firing on all cylinders. Posted well near the rail, she should challenge well again in this effort.
  3. Lee Trinity (Kiowa Sweet Trey – Lee Devin) is the most experienced greyhound in the field, and probably has more 660 wins as these greyhounds have starts. She is tough on the early lead, but you never know if she is going to break or now. If she can steal a ton early on, she might just upset minded in this effort.
  4. Gs Humongous (Pat C Game Face – Gs Ashlynn) is a converted sprinter that has made breaking a business over 660 yards. On the lead early in 5 straight, that is where I expect him to be again tonight. Problem is that he just a tad bit short in the stretch. Holding on could be tough, but with some help behind, he might just wire them all
  5. Businessasusual (Djays Octane – Fruition) was the only greyhound not to win a race during the rounds. He is a good stalking closer that can come from off the pace to challenge in a good race. He would rather not be in this starting box, but he will make due. He must be in the conversation early on to stand a chance against this talented field.
  6. Nizy (Bd’s Grayson – Secret Papers) has taken the 660 course by storm with 3 wins in 4 efforts in the stakes. She has speed to burn late and can get it done from on or off the pace in any race. She should like the midtrack post, and most likely will be the greyhound to beat in this effort.
  7. Pat C Typhoon (Iruska All Star – Pat C Ok) another converted sprinter that hangs around the front end in each start. He has shown to be a bit short late, like most sprinters are, but he did also hang on to win a race in the rounds. Like the rest of the sprinters in this final, he will need a big break and some help behind if he wants to steal the win.
  8. Dutch Casey (Djays Octane – Djays Im A Star) is the best closer in the field and is coming off a stellar win in his semi-final race. He would rather be on the rail, but might just find room from the outside as the early speeders get out of his way. No doubt he will be a force late, and if he decides to break, he could pull off a huge win. That 37.33 effort was no fluke!

The lure hops into motion and whirls by the 660 starting boxes. And out pops the 4, Gs Humongous to the lead. No big surprise there as he has not been beaten to the front end in 5 straight races, but it is who comes out behind him that makes this race one to watch. Clearly outside is the triple race winner Nizy along in tow with the Ironhound Champ Boc’s Queen Lady. Also in contention is the one Rt Banana Foster and the lurking closer Dutch Casey. Around the early turn and up the frontstretch they go, and it is just more of the same. Humongous set the pace with the others chasing and trying to keep him in sight as they roll through the escape turn and up the backside. Still in command Humongous is putting on a show on the front end, but it is all about to change come the far turn. The chasers are coming, the closers are flying, and everyone is getting closer and closer to the early leader. As they turn for him, the lead has disappeared and the chasers are now the leaders. Nizy and Boc’s Queen Lady both blow by the man in front and make a two-way run to the wire for the win. Both battle hard back and forth and neither of them want to give an inch away. Down to the final few strides they are duking it out, but in the end, Nizy comes out just better than Boc’s Queen Lady at the finish line. Closing from behind is Dutch Casey to overtake Humongous in the deep stretch and steal away 3rd. After running a great race on the lead, Humongous was just outfinished by longer running greyhounds and must settle for the final spot in the superfecta at the wire. (6-2-8-4)

No Strike Out in OPD

On Saturday evening November 11th at bestbet Jacksonville the old tall tale was in full effect, except this time around, Mighty Casey DIDN’T strike out.  You see the finals of the 2017 $35,000 Orange Park Derby was set and ready to so in the 11th race on the card. The place was packed with patrons enjoying the second chance drawings and the dash for cash promotion, but there were here to see the best routers at the racetrack battle it out for the title. Loads of talent littered the post positions, but with no clear-cut favorite, it really was anyone’s. Mostly made up of converted sprinters, the pace should be hot early, but would they all have enough to hold on late for the win.

As we approached post time the excitement grew and you could hear each patron making a case for just who they thought would take home the title. Rusty got revved up down the backside as Joe Ross billowed out the patented “Here Comes Rusty” call and before you knew it, we were off and racing at bestbet Jacksonville.

Destroying the lid and outbreaking everyone easily was Rt Banana Foster from the rail. Clearing right with Foster was the race favorite Nizy and as expected Gs Humongous was pushing the early leaders as well. Butch Casey also was close early, with former stakes winner Boc’s Queen Lady in tow on the rail. As they went through the early turn, Foster worked out a bit midtrack and cutoff Humongous who was pinched back a bit as he was caught between Foster and Nizy. This gave room for Boc’s Queen Lady to rush by on the rail as Dutch Casey stayed wide around the early trouble and continued to chase as they moved up the frontside for the first time. Foster continued to set the pace, but the players behind her shuffled up a bit as they rushed to the clubhouse turn. Stalking the leader was Boc’s Queen Lady and Lee Trinity, both benefiting from the trouble, followed by Dutch Casey, Nizy, and Businessasusual. Another turn to go through and another rough spot for the leaders up front. Foster’s lead had shrunk down to a half a length, but as Queen Lady tried to get by, she was cutoff and bumped the leader. This caused her to carry even further to the outside part of the racetrack and collide with Lee Trinity. This collision would change the whole outcome of this race. Staying under the trouble was Dutch Casey and Businessasusual and as they turned down the backside, this duo of closers was on a mission. Dashing away from the rest Foster was still in control, but at the far turn things they were a changing. Dutch Casey had run a huge backside and caught the leader entering the far turn and like most early speed greyhounds know, it’s never good when the closer has the lead. Sneaking past on the rail, Casey found the clean air up front, and as they say, the rest was history. Businessasusual also moved by the leader and turning for home it was a two-way battle for the win as Foster had run out of gas. Casey knocked the mud off his paws, dug in deep, saw the pitch a coming, and hit it out of the park. Businessasusual gave an all-out effort, but try as he might, he just couldn’t take down the winner as they crossed the wire. Late rallying Nizy was good enough for third, after rallying from early trouble and coming from well off the pace, as Boc’s Queen Lady settled for fourth after she was outgunned late by the closer, but still had enough left to run down the early leader Foster at the finish line.

Congratulations to the Ocala Kennel, Trainer Toni Gerrard, Owner Jo Ann Koerner, and everyone else connected with this fantastic greyhound. Some might say he got lucky in the turns, but I think you make your own luck in racing. This greyhound is smart and made sure he was in the right place at the right time in this final round race. Congrats and good luck in your future races here at bestbet Jacksonville.

Monday evening November 20th, 2017

Qualifying round of the 2017 Thanksgiving Marathon Challenge

Race 7 – Tough race here to call and several of these greyhounds are making their first trips over the 770-yard route. Loads of talent, but big question marks as well. Nizy gets my nod in this race. This greyhound dominated over the 660 course in the recent Orange Park Derby, and closed well in the finals to finish 3rd. I think she can run all day and absolutely loves this 8 box. Look for a strong break and for her to dig in deep late to score the win. She will have her hands full though as Ironhound Champ, Boc’s Queen Lady, draws a great rail post and has beaten stakes fields over this distance. She is always around the lead in any effort, but if she wants a win here, she will need to break quick to have a shot late. The early lead might be saved for Royal Clarion. Last time out over 770 she stole the front end and dove the lure away from the rest early on. She paid for it late though as she came up short in the deep stretch and had to settle for show. More of the same for her in this effort. Dutch Dalton is the other greyhound to worry about. Never run this far, but seems to just cruise on the front end if he can get there. No one is hotter here, he has won back to back races over 660, and he could be a big-time force here if he breaks well from the 770 box. A lot of what if’s in this effort, but take the class with the experience and the early speed and you should get some winning tickets. (HOPEFULLY!) (8-1-3-4)

Race 12 – Unlike the first race, here we have 2 greyhounds that will for sure be battling it out for the win tonight. The former track record holder, Herstal, and the recent queen over the distance, Jack’s Jet Speed. Both greyhounds have the ability to get the job done, and I think Herstal is looking for a little revenge as Jet Speed beat her last time out over the 770-yard course. Herstal has the best raw speed of this bunch and she just needs to get around close to take home the big time W in this effort. Let’s not forget that she won this race last year, and the Holiday Extravaganza stakes 770 leg, and several top grade 770 races from nearly the same post. She is the one to beat not only in this race, but the finals as well. Jack’s Jet Speed is no chump either and can post up big time wins over the 770-yard course too. The difference is that she is just not as seasoned as Herstal over the route. She is a strong greyhound and has proven that she can beat the best at the racetrack. The post is the same as it was in her last marathon race, and she scored a win. Closing is her best attribute and can come from off the pace to get it done in the stretch. She might not be able to run Herstal down if she gets the lead, but other yes. Really a two-greyhound race for win here in my opinion, play them like you like them. Best of the rest might be the grade C greyhound in this effort. Lk’s Rose Petal close from off the pace to finish right behind the lead duo here in her only 770 race. She got into trouble in this effort and might get a cleaner run outside tonight. If she can break at all, she might have a shot to factor at the finish line. Dutch Casey is the last one to take about in this effort. Trying out the route for the first time, he looks the part, but will have to see if he can turn those 660 closing runs into a good effort over the marathon course. He is always consistent, he finds ways into the money, and he is a threat in every start. No doubt that won’t change in this effort. Look for a solid chase and for him to factor in the money at the finish line again tonight. (3-4-5-7)

Remember the finals will run on Friday evening November 24th at bestbet Jacksonville as part of our special Holiday Double Header Performance.

Another great stake race is upon us here at bestbet Jacksonville with the finals of the 2017 Thanksgiving Marathon Challenge. The top 4 finishers in each of 2 qualifying races will take a spot in the 11th race on the card for Friday evening November 24th at bestbet Jacksonville. This one is going to be highly contested, and don’t forget you get a double dip as the consolation race runs in the 7th race on the card. Let’s take a closer look at both races and see if we can get you into the BLACK on Black Friday!

Friday evening November 24th, 2017
Finals of Thanksgiving Marathon in Race 11

1. Jack’s Jet Speed (Pat C Clement – Jack’s Go Red) has really taken to the route and has won back to back races over this distance. He has a good break at 770, and can come off the pace as needed to score. He is not posted well, but could fire from the start anyways. One of the greyhounds to beat tonight.

2. Boc’s Queen Lady (Kc And All – Boc’s Snow Queen) is a stakes winner of this distance with the 2017 Ironhound Champ title. She is always around the money and will absolutely love this rail post position. She is tough near the lead and might need the front end early in order to pull off the upset in this effort. Even if she can’t win, she should be a factor throughout in this effort.

3. Dutch Dalton (Soprano Drive – Dutch Cami) made the most of his first 770 race as he posted a win against some of the best at the racetrack. He is on a tear, winning 3 straight, and he gets a great starting box to work from at the beginning of this race. If he continues to break well, he will be a force for the win again in this race. Streak continues?

4. Royal Clarion (Golden Squire – Quick Reward) is the early speed portion of the equation. Sure, she missed her break last time out, but before that she led all the way to the deep stretch. She will most likely be short again late, so she must steal a huge lead early if she wants a chance to score a title tonight. Post is fine with her, let’s see if she can make the most of it.

5. Pj Pigglngiggle (Amf Bad Bounce – Pj Miami) is also new to the course, but showed well in her first attempt. She closed throughout in that effort and should be making up ground late again tonight. No big-name efforts to call upon, but she looks like she could do better if she gets loose early on. Tough box, in the middle of it, but she likes it there. Her last 5 box start, a win by 6.

6. Jesse Owens (Flying Penske – Maverick Frances) another 1 time started that showed potential. Coming on strong in the stretch, Jesse stole away place at the finish and thrived from the outside post position. Another one wider here tonight and he could have his mind set on moving up the finishing ranks at the wire. If he can get loose, watch out.

7. Dutch Casey (Djays Octane – Djays Im A Star) is another all out trying greyhound that seems to be around the money in each and every start. He was just off in place in his first attempt and that could improve in this effort. He likes it outside and could dominate is he decides to break once again tonight. The finish at the wire is all up to him here.

8. Super C Amy (Sh Avatar – Super C Arias) held on for 4th at the wire in her 770 are race, but as you can see, she’s just not made to run this far. She is always close early, but the further they run shorter she gets. If she stands any chance to take home the W in this effort, she must hit the lid and hope for some help from behind her.

Now onto the race. No doubt you must like the winners in round 1 and that is just who a think has the best shot at winning this race too. Both have been breaking extremely well and it could turn into a battle royal up front for control and the win at the wire. I see Royal Clarion breaking well too and figuring with the leaders early, but in the end, she will come up a bit short coming home. Dutch Casey is the wild card for me in this effort. Always trying, posted well, strong closer, and it is tough to ignore that 44.18 clocking, which was almost as fast as Dalton’s winning time. So, watch for Jack’s Jet Speed to hit the lid, take the lead and be pressed by Dutch Dalton and Royal Clarion to the stretch, and for Dutch Casey to come on strong late and make it interesting at the finish line. (1-3-7-4)

Consolation for the Thanksgiving Marathon Challenge in Race 7

1. Herstal (Definate Opinion* – Mika) was the former 770 track record holder and the winner of this race last year. She ran strong 2 starts ago, but found trouble in round one and finished out of the money. Easily she is the best marathon greyhound here and clearly the one to beat in this effort. If she gets lose, this could get U-G-L-Y!

2. Easi Turner (Ays Octane – Easi Chloe) has shown some flashes when he wants to go, you just never know when that is going to be. He drew off by many lengths late over 660 and should be able to go this far if the planets are aligned. He likes the rail and gets it here, let’s see how it goes.

3. Lk’s Rose Petal (Barcelona Boss – Lk’s Cherokee) has experience over 770 and closed well in both efforts over the added distance. Truly all she needs to do is figure out a way to get closer early and get a clean trip around the racetrack. Her mom throws nothing but distance greyhounds and if this pup sorts it out, she could be the next great one. Watch out if she gets loose tonight.

4. Pat C Bona (Djays Octane – Gable Loaded) is new to the distance and didn’t get a fair shake in the first round of the stakes. He ran into trouble early and never recovered. He closed well in his 660 starts and appears that he can run this far. Another wildcard factor in this race.

5. Lee Banshee (Djays Octane – Lee Talia) is a force to be reckoned with when he can get to the lead in any race. His effort is not always the same when he has to start from behind. With no true breakers here, he might have a chance to see the front end early on. If he gets his nose out front, he could be tough to run down late tonight.

6. B’s Valiantnight (Djays Octane – Kelsos Uptosnuff) is another hot and cold running greyhound that gets steamier that closer he gets to the front end in any race. He has some great ability, but you never know when that is going to come out. He has a good starting post, so he might just show up tonight.

7. Pat C Nevada (Djays Octane – Gable Loaded) is a steady paced greyhound that can come on a bit at the end of the race over the 660-yard course. He has run this far a few times and has had some success on occasion. He needs to break better from a fairly decent post position tonight in order to have a better chance in this effort.

8. Nizy (Bd’s Grayson – Secret Papers) was the leader in wins in qualifying for the Orange Park Derby. In the finals she finished a closing 3rd. I think she can go this far, but she ran into trouble and finished just out of the cash at the wire in round number 1. Another 8 box, a good place for her to start from, she just needs to break better to avoid the trouble. If she clears, she could be the next best threat in this effort.

Tonight, in this effort, you have to love the 1 dog, Herstal. A former track record holder, and 2-time winner of a 770 stakes final, she knows how to get the job done over this distance. I think she breaks way to close in this effort and overpowers everyone late for the win. Early I think she will have to deal with Lee Banshee, who will decide to break in this effort and give the rest of the field fits on the front end, until she is passed late. Others to consider tonight include Nizy from the outside and Lk’s Rose Petal from the inside. Nizy will break well, stalk the pace, stay clear of trouble, and make it more interesting at the finish line than others will think. LK’s Rose Petal will shift gears in the stretch and find a way to make it into the money tonight. (1-8-3-5)

Another ROYAL Coronation

The 2017 edition of the Thanksgiving Marathon Challenge took place on Friday evening November 24th at bestbet Jacksonville. The place was packed to see the best 770-yard greyhounds compete as they took their chances in our second chance drawings for cash in the nightcap of our special holiday double header. As the board popped up for the 11th race on the card, you knew it was going to be an interesting race to say the least. No one, not until almost post time, was double digits for the win. Everyone was close to the same odds as the wagering public didn’t know just who was going to come out on top in this effort. At the wire, that point was etched in stone.

Around the frontstretch and through the turn in front of the marathon box Rusty rumbled, and the break in this stakes final there was one greyhound that came to run. Hitting the lid from the 4 box, Royal Clarion exploded to the lead and stole away 3 quick lengths on the rest of the field as they bolted down the backside. Also rushing well was former stakes winner Boc’s Queen Lady on the rail followed by Dutch Dalton, Jesse Owens, and Dutch Casey. Around the turn for the turn time Clarion continued to hold that lead against the pressing Boc’s Queen Lady as the rest of the field tried to make up ground on the leaders. Around the turn, and up the frontside the race remained the same, except that Boc’s Queen Lady was narrowing the gap as they crossed the finish line the first time around. Through the escape turn and down the backside they ran. Royal Clarion still in control, Boc’s Queen Lady still pressing the leader, and the rest of the field was starting to warm up as well. By the far turn, the tide of the race looked to be turning a bit, as the closers started to come a running at the leaders, but Clarion still appeared strong on the front end. Turning for home Clarion was digging in deep as Boc’s Queen Lady was losing steam and the late threats were making their presence known. Clarion didn’t miss a beat over the final few strides. Turning back the challengers with every strong stride she took, she wired the field and took home the CROWN at the finish line by a length and a half in 44.06 seconds. The real race here was for place. It was a three-way battle coming home and a photo would be needed to separate the chasers at the finish line. Dutch Casey blew on by the tiring Boc’s Queen Lady and appeared to have a shot at the win coming home, but try as he might he just couldn’t catch up the leader before the finish line. In fact, he almost got caught peaking for the wire too soon as Jesse Owens made a huge late rush to just miss out for place and had to settle for show at the wire. The all out early pace pusher, Boc’s Queen Lady was outgamed in the stretch, but held on for the final spot in the superfecta just off from the winners at the finish line. Completing the field was Dutch Dalton in 5th, Super C Amy in 6th, Jack’s Jet Speed in 7th and Pj Wigglengiggle in 8th.

Its that time of year again that bestbet pulls out all the stops and runs raced over all distances for the holidays. You heard me right! On Saturday evening December 9th at bestbet Jacksonville we will run stakes races over 330, 550, 660, 770, and 990 yards! Yes 8 stakes races in total over all the distances at the racetrack. This was such a popular promotion last year that we have brought it back again in 2017. In conjunction with our cash and prize giveaways, and our second chance drawings, bestbet Jacksonville is going to be hopping this upcoming Saturday evening. Tonight, Monday December 4th, we will run the prelim races over 550, 660, and 770, 2 races each, and the top four finishers will move on to the finals as the bottom four finishers will move on to the consolation races. Mark your calendars as you will not want to miss all the heart racing all distance stakes action that will be taking place at bestbet Jacksonville this Saturday evening, December 9th.

Now let’s take a closer look at the qualifying races for 550, 660, and 770 yards.

Monday evening December 4th, 2017

Race 5 – (660 Yards) – Loads of possibilities here with several stakes caliber greyhounds in the mix. Rt Banana Foster held the lead to the far turn in the recent Orange Park Derby Finals, and could do it again tonight. Hot off a win, she should wire this field on the lead. Closing late to challenge from a great post should be Lk’s Fanciful, who has 2 straight quinielas from the outside posts. Ww’s Jax Straw needs to find her break, but she too could be a force on the front end from an idea starting box, and don’t sleep on Kmz Kraken. The former sprint track record holder, can run this far, and if she gets loose early, she might be upset minded tonight. (5-8-2-6)

Race 7 – (550 Yards) – I know she might be getting a little long in the tooth, but the 8 box is her best box, so you have to like the over 90 race winner, Real Good Feelin. This little girl can win with out without the lead and can close by almost anyone at the racetrack late. She will find her gears and get back on top again tonight. The greyhound with the best shot to beat her has to be Drink It Off. This phenomenal pup has won 8 of 14 starts and his last 3 races in a row. A closer, he will be coming late too, but will have to keep up the pace as she tries to get revenge for their last match-up. Others to consider include, and always threatening L’s Sum God and the solid grade A who has been in the money in 6 straight, Dutch Doreen. (8-7-5-2)

Race 9 – (770 Yards) – Not too tough of a choice in this race. Three of the greyhounds won a round of the recent Thanksgiving Marathon, including the one who took home the top spot in the finals. This one more come down to what order you like them in. I’ll take the hot hand, and the 1 box, in Royal Clarion. A box to wire romp in the finals saw her as the champ and tonight against this field I think we see a repeat performance. Dutch Dalton might have finished out of the money in the finals, but his prelim win was a thing of beauty. He likes it outside and should contend hard again here. Jack’s Jet Speed has won 2 of his last 3 races over this distance and those have come from nearly the same post he has here. Watch for him to break and challenge throughout again tonight, and don’t sleep on Super C Amy either. Winning might be a stretch, but she should factor early and hold on in the super late. (1-7-3-6)

Race 10 – (550 Yards) – Tough field here as 6 of the 8 greyhounds have a win in grade A showing in their lines. The other two have B wins showing and are factoring ok in their grade A starts. Old school pick here as Hey Hey Daddy gets another chance at a stakes title. With back to back wins, and a good starting box, eh might just find that old mojo and post up a W in this effort. Trying to ruin his plans will be the Always breaking and contending threat, Lk’s Black Gold, who has finished in the quiniela in 5 of 6 races. Puppy upstarts Kiowa Sure Wild and Fix A Drink have both won half of their starts at bestbet Jacksonville, including a pair of grade A scores in their last 4 starts. If wither of them get loose early, they could easily take home the top spot at the wire. (3-8-6-7)

Race 11 – (660 Yards) – Tough to pick against the hottest 660 greyhound going right now, so I won’t! Craigie Avatar has won 2 races in a row, and 4 of her last 6 starts, all from off the pace. She gets her best starting box tonight and from here she can even break to the lead on occasion. She is as strong as they come late and will be a force to stop in this effort. Trying to outmaneuver her will be the IronHound Champ, Boc’s Queen Lady. Always around the lead, always round the pace, and always around at the wire, Queen Lady knows how to contend, and we will see her best effort again tonight. Especially from the rail post! Setting the pace should be Nb’s Paris Hilton from the rail. Why? She has been first to the lead in 5 of 6 races and has finished in the money in 6 straight trips. She is short late and will be caught again tonight. Like A Boss also gets a looky loo here. This closer like it outside and could be a late threat to the leaders as they approach the finish line tonight. (8-2-1-6)

Race 15 – (770 Yards) – Tough to ignore a couple of greyhounds in this race. Dutch Casey was the runner-up in the finals of the Thanksgiving Marathon Challenge and gets to start this race out from the exact same post. You know he will be closing in fast, but he better not let Lee Banshee steal too much early on. She hit the lid and won the consolation race for the Thanksgiving Marathon in a faster time than the finals. She is tough on the lead and if she hit the lid tonight, she might just run off and hide from this field on the lead for the win. Aintgunnawastit might be in grade C, but don’t let that fool you. This greyhound was a monster in grade A earlier this year and absolutely loves this distance. She can close fast in the stretch and will make her presence known at the wire. Good Luckchigger also deserves a chance to shine tonight. She too likes the distance, and with 6 of 7 career races in the money over 770 yards, she cannot be forgot about tonight. (7-2-8-4)

Don’t forget about the finals on Saturday evening as we feature races over all distances. We will have great cash and prize giveaways after races 3-10 and second chance drawings from races 2-11. You can earn extra entries by placing wagers this week on Jacksonville greyhounds at the live racetrack. Saturday evening, December 9th, 2017

Race 3 – (330 Yards – Super Sprint) This race is short, from the 770 box to the finish line, so that means whoever gets the early lead is probably going to win. No matter the grade, you need ALL OUT EARLY SPEED to get the job done, and there is a duo here that stand out amongst the crowd. The on that gets the nod for me is Sunday Funday. First to the turn in 6 straight, she will be hard to beat to the lead as she can rush with the best of them. She will be pressed throughout though as Problem Child also is a 6-straight race front end finder at the turn. This duo will be nose to nose for the duration and should be a solid quiniela play on the card. Others to consider here include the classy play, solid grade A, Boc’s Andross, who has not been worst than 3rd to the turn, and Taking My Time, a greyhound that has been in the lead in the 4 of the last 5 races and draws a great rail post. (2-4-8-1)

Race 4 – (990 Yards – Super Marathon) No one knows how this race is going to play out. Twice around from the 550 starting box, it is a long, long, long way home. We do know how some of these greyhounds perform over 770 and if they can close there, they might have the stuff to go even further. I’ll play it safe with the class and experience in this effort. No doubt to me that the former 770 track record holder, Herstal, should be the post time favorite. She has loads of starts over the marathon course, can close well over that distance, has the 1 box, had a track record at 770, and might just set another one in this effort. Challenging here will be the pup Lk’s Rose Petal. Another well suited greyhound that closed hard over 770 and is finding her groove as of late. Hot off a win, she is the only grade A greyhound in this field. Jesse Owens made up ground in both of his recent marathon races and could challenge for the win here, and Camp Ellie also gets a nod. He has one pace and it looks like he can keep it up for a great while. If he can stay out of trouble tonight, you never know what he might do. (1-5-2-8)

Race 5 – (550 Yards Consolation Stakes) Everyone in this race didn’t have a great first run at the stakes, but tonight they get another chance at it. Veteran experienced power comes to mind and only one greyhound in this field has won a stakes final, Hey Hey Daddy! Daddy might be getting a little long in the tooth, but he still has the cops to win. (See 3 wins in his last 6 starts). Posted midtrack here where he likes to be, I expect a big effort and a win tonight. Another strong grade A winner that should challenge is L’s Sum Dog. As fast as he wants to be, this greyhound can get it done on or off the early pace. Before his last effort, 5 straight in the money with 2 wins. Tonight, he rebounds and challenges for the win. Post position makes Duke Rufus a factor here too. This greyhound loves the 8 box and runs his best when he is wearing the tiger stripes. Winning against this talented field might be a stretch, but he should a solid under play on your tickets. Let’s not forget about Pat C Alex either. Even though he likes to race outside, he can hang from the rail starting boxes too. For him its all about the break. If he can get close early on, he too might have a chance to score an upset. (5-6-8-1)

Race 6 – (770 Yards Consolation Stakes) Another humdinger of a race where any one in the field might just have a chance at a victory. Some greyhounds here have experience over the route, and that might just separate them from the rest at the finish line. Aintgunnawasteit is better than his lines show and there is no doubt in my mind that he can run this far. He has competed against tougher fields and finished in the money, and this time around he has a favorable post position. Look for him to rebound with a bit winning effort tonight. Pressing him should be the former grade A, and strong marathon threat, Good Luckchigger. Chigger missed her break and found double trouble last time out. Look for her to remedy that situation tonight. Super C Amy is not in the right box at all, but with so big early speeders in this race, she might just see the lead headed to the turn in this effort. She is short over the marathon course and would need to steal a mile to upset. Could it be done? Sure, but it will take her best to accomplish that. Keep an eye out for Cbj Thunderbolt as well. A solid chaser, he could factor in the money from the start in this effort. (2-5-1-6)

Race 7 – (550 Yards Holiday Stakes Final) Now to the meat of the program, the 550 stakes final is here, and boy is this race loaded with everything you want. Plenty of early speed, exciting pups, cagey veterans, and even a track record holder with over 90 wins! No doubt it is going to be a donnybrook as 6 of the 8 greyhounds have wins in grade A showing in their last 6 races, and the other two have been in the money 5 or more times in their last 6 starts. Hot hand gets the grease here as super pup Drink It Off gets the nod once again. Currently, on a 4-race win streak, Drink It Off has shown mad skills in the stretch to take down leaders near the wire for those victories. Here he better not give up too much ground early, and there are greyhounds in this field that could wire him on the lead. Speaking of that, Lk’s Black Gold could be that greyhounds. On a streak of her own, back to back wins and 5 straight quinielas, Black Gold has the early rush needed to get to the lead and stay there in this effort. Posted well tonight, she too is a strong threat to score. Never count out Real Good Feelin. I know she is getting some age on her, but you can’t replace heart, desire, drive, talent, experience, and will! These characteristics she has in abundance and they will be on display again tonight. If she breaks near the lead, the race might just be for place. Don’t over look the other stellar pup in the field, Kiowa Sure Wild. Posted well in the 1 box, this pup can run tough when close early on. She needs to break again here for a chance to win, but has enough late speed to contend without it. She should finish off the race somewhere in the money tonight. (5-7-3-1)

Race 8 – (660 Yards Consolation Stakes) Another wide-open race that could be had by anyone that wants to step up tonight. I’ll firmly jump out on a slim limb with this pick, but deep down I think it can happen. Former 550 track record holder Kmz Kraken can run this far and is a monster when she can get loose in any race. The problem is that we are just not sure when that is going to happen. In her last effort, the post hindered her performance, and tonight from the rail, I see that improving. Look at her last race from the 2 box! Enough said. Pressuring her late will be the 2nd place finisher in the recent finals of the 2017 Orange Park Derby. Businessasusual is a good closer over the route that just needs to stay out of trouble to have a shot to take home the win here. He likes the post and should fly up into the mix at the finish line. Like A Boss is almost a duplicate of Businessasusual. Both can close, both like it midtrack, and both could upset if they get around close tonight early on. Look for Boss to be coming on strong in the stretch as well to challenge in this effort. With 4 of 6 in the money, including a win, I expect another strong performance. Setting the pace and making all the closers work will be Nb’s Paris Hilton. In 5 of her last 6 races she has been in the lead early, but has not lasted to win any of those efforts. She is short late and will be once again in this race. She should be able to hold on in the money tough as she has been there in 5 of her last 6 races. (2-6-3-8)

Race 9 – (770 Yards Holiday Stakes Final) This is a tough stakes final. Loads of talent here along with some big efforts last time out from some greyhounds with little experience over the route. You must pick someone, so I will go with Lee Banshee. The winner of back to back races over this distance, including the Thanksgiving Marathon Consolation win, he is an absolute terror on the early lead. Once he gets his nose in front, he shows no signs of slowing down whatsoever. The break is the most critical part of this race for him, and remember that he ran faster than the finals in that consolation effort, and he posted up the quickest time in qualifying for this final round race. Out and gone early on! NEXT! Trying to chase down the early footer will be Jack’s Jet Speed. The other first round winner draws a tough post here and will have to overcome it if he wants a chance to win. He can close late, and has 3 marathon wins showing in his last 6 races. Royal Clarion is the other greyhound that will throw her name into the mix to win this effort. She has the early speed to see the front end and she it extra tough up front when she gets to the clean air. She was the winner of the 2017 Thanksgiving Marathon Stakes, and has not finished out of the money in 4 races in a row over 770 yards. She might get outgunned late, but she will give her all here and contend from the box to wire with the leaders. Dutch Casey might not win a bunch, but he is always in contention at the finish line. With 6 straight in the trifecta, including 3 straight in his last 3 marathon races in a row, he will be a presence around the lead for the duration of this effort. (4-1-6-5)

Race 10 – (660 Yards Holiday Stakes Final) This final has something for everyone. Early speed, check! Late speed, check! Stalkers, check! Converted sprinters, check! Recent winners, check! Stakes winners, check! And even a greyhound that has won 3 of her last 6 races over this distance! That is where we will start with Craigie Avatar. Closing is the name of her game as all of those victories have come from off the pace. She likes the midtrack to inside posts and gets a gem here with the 3 box. On a couple of early speeders to deal with, and she should be too close too soon not to take care of them in the stretch. Look for another hard driving effort and for her to post up another W at the finish line. Critics Choice might not have been in the choice to win in round 1, but that is exactly what she did. After back to back races where she was just a head too short of scoring, she came up big in round 1 and moved into this final. She has been breaking well, gets another good post here, and should factor up front throughout. Lk’s Fanciful is a hot and cold running greyhound that can really turn on the scald when she wants to. Tonight, she gets a tough box and will have to overcome it if she wants a chance to win. A strong break would go a long way in helping out her effort. Finally, is the Ironhound stakes winner herself, Boc’s Queen Lady. Lady is all hart, can run any distance, and somehow always ends up in the money at the wire. She has not missed the top 4 spots in forever, ok 17 races in a row, but you get the drift. No matter what happens, this girl will be there at the finish line. Tough post to get room early on, but she will find her way clear and contend. You can count on that! (3-6-2-5)

Don’t forget! Prizes and Cash Giveaways races 3-10. Stakes Races over all distance in races 3-10. Second chance drawings in races 2-11, and a great night had by all on Saturday evening December 9th at bestbet Jacksonville. I’ll see you at the RACES!

Holiday Stakes Finals RECAP

What a great evening of racing and entertainment was had by all on December 9th at bestbet Jacksonville. On the card there were 6 stakes events in conjunctions with our great prize and cash giveaways, and our 2nd chance drawings, and everyone in attendance had a fantastic time. All the patrons got to wager on the 330 Yard Super-Sprint final, the 550 Yard Sprint Final, the 550 Yard Consolation Final, the 660 Yard Sprint Final, the 660 Yard Consolation Final, the 770 Yard Sprint Final, and the 770 Yard Consolation Final. All the races featured tip top talent, and by the end of the races, we would see unlikely upsets, dead lock favorites win, pups making a name for themselves, lock quinielas, and even a track record. Let’s look at the finals and see just who made history in the 2017 edition of the Holiday Stakes.

The action got started in the 3rd race on the card as the best Super-Sprinters were put into the box. Loads of greyhounds in this race had the stuff to get to the lead, but like in most finals, it all came down to just who wanted it more. At the break it was Cp’s Bee Bruce hitting the lid and surprising all by taking over the early lead as they started to the turn. The field was sandwiched in behind him in close proximity, and by the time they got toward the turn, the front end was getting realigned. The grade A threat Sunday Funday made the most of the clear lane and outrushed the rest, and even the leader, to the frontend at the far turn. Turning for home a length ahead of this field, Funday dug in deep and just kept on going to the wire. Breezing up front, she maintained that slim lead all the way to the wire for the win. Cp’s Bee Bruce was a game second, and really ran a winning trip, just not good enough in this trip. Lk’s Silverstone was close early and drifted back for third as Taking My Time made up some ground and finished off the superfecta. Completing the order was Boc’s Andross in 5th, Problem Child in 6th, Gs Patsy in 7th, and Ww Harry Devil in 8th.

From one extreme to another, the very next race on the card, the 4th, was over the 990-yard distance, or twice around from the 550 box. Here there was a little something for everyone to bet on. We had greyhounds from all over the place heading to post and each showed some sign of having a chance to win this effort. Before it was all said and done, we would have a new track record holder at bestbet Jacksonville. Like most would have expected, how this race finished the first time around was not going to be how it finished the second time at the wire. Out and gone early on was the 6 greyhound, WW Slim Reaper to the front end. Controlling the race was Jesse Owens, Pat C Hell Bent, and Camp Ellie in tow, Reaper crossed the finish line in front and they went around the turn again, and that is when the line-up started to change. The closers came a running and that would be the game changer for the greyhounds up front. Down the backside, Jesse Owens took over control, but that was no going to last long as Pj Wigglengiggle, Lk’s Rose Petal, and Camp Ellie all were determined to improve their positions by the wire. By the far turn, all three had passed the tiring leader as Pj Wigglengiggle stole a length over the fast-moving Lk’s Rose Petal, and even more of a margin over Camp Ellie. Turning for home LK’s Rose Petal poked her nose in front and that was all it was going to take. Down the stretch she put on the afterburners and cleared the rest at the finish line by almost 5 lengths in a new Track Record of 59.02 seconds. Pj Wigglengiggle held on for a distant place as Camp Ellie coasted home for the final spot in the trifecta. Pat C Hell Bent rebounded nicely in the stretch to outlast the backside leader Jesse Owens for 4th. Herstal finished 6th, and Gs Dahlia was 7th and the early leader Ww Slim Reaper was last.

The next final came in the 7th race and a fantastic set of puppy brothers, from Kate Bartley, put on a show. This race might have been the most chalk full of talent on the card and it was going to be a barn burner from the start. As expected the fleet footer Lk’s Black Gold took early command of this effort. This greyhound has see the lead in so many, it really wasn’t all that much of a surprise to see her with her nose out in front at the start. The problem for the rest of the field was catching her before she got to the wire. She is not short and had won 4 of her last 5 previous races on the lead turning for home. The good news was that there was time to get to her before the stretch, but who was going to get it done. Well it had to come from the stalkers, if anyone was going to do it, and by the first turn, the outcome didn’t look all the bright.  Lk’s Black Gold had already stolen 2 lengths over the rest of the field, and appeared to be in totally command of this race, but not so fast by friend. The puppy brigade from the Blanchard was not done just yet. Fix A Drink and Drink It Off came to run and put there heads down as they flew down the backside into the far turn. There Fix A Drink took over command of this race and put a couple of lengths between him and the former leader, Lk’s Black Gold. Drink It Off was not far off either and had started to find the NOS as they all rounded the turn and headed for home. Fix A Drink crept closer and closer to the wire with every step he took, but Drink It Off was in full throttle as they got near the wire and we all knew that it was going to take a photo to separate them at the finish line. When the dust settled, Fix A Drink held on gamely by a half a length to secure the win over his brother Drink It Off. Early leader Lk’s Black Gold easily held on for third as another puppy from Blanchard, Kiowa Sure Wild, completed the superfecta in 4th. Rounding out the field was Kanes Bubba in 5th, Real Good Feelin in 6th, Dutch Doreen in 7th, and Speedo Tuxedo in 8th.

The 9th race was the most highly contested race of the evening. At the completing of 770 yards, this final all came down to a photo finish between the top 3 greyhounds who were just a held a length or less apart at the wire. Early on though it looked as if this race was all over except for the crying. Breaking well was Dutch Dalton and Lee Banshee, both staying in their lanes and going mono-a-mono for the lead, but Dalton got there first, and at the turn, Lee Banshee was clipped and taken out of contention. This trouble slingshoted Dalton into the prime time up front as he stole away 6 or more lengths on the rest of this field. That was the good news, the bad news was that there was still plenty of race left. By the backside Dutch Casey was on a run with Royal Clarion and they would start chipping away at the leader’s margin as they approached the far turn. As these closers caught up, Daltons lead had shrunk to just a head over Casey and a length over Clarion, and the ever-closing presence of Jack’s Jet Speed was only a couple more lengths behind as they turned for home. At this point it was a three-greyhound race as that didn’t include the early leader. Dutch Casey stuck his nose in front, but it was immediately contested by Royal Clarion. This two locked up in a head to head, neck to neck, paw to paw battle that continued with every stride they took to the wire. Jack’s Jet Speed was not out of it just yet either as he drove up on the behinds of the leaders, and then moved inside to try and pass. Battling it out, these greyhounds countered each other’s moves in an all-out effort to score a win tonight. Nothing was closer at the wire as no one could tell just who had pulled off the win in the final few strides. When the photo was posted, Royal Clarion bested the Jack’s Jet Speed by a head, and Dutch Casey by a half a length, to secure her second marathon stakes title in just over 3 weeks. Coming on through this race after trouble early was Adh Freda Dee. Flying home, she was in the mix two just a couple of lengths off the winner at the finish line. Rounding out the field was early leader Dutch Dalton in 5th, Lee Banshee in 6th, Pat C Bona in 7th, and CM’s Grayson in 8th.

The last stakes final came in the 10th race as the best, and more recent, 660 greyhound proved her metal over the added distance course. This race was no clean, several greyhounds ran into trouble here, but the greyhound that got the biggest benefit, in the end, did not win. At the start it was Boc’s Libra that hit the lid and exploded to the lead. She was followed closely by the converted sprinters Gs Humongous and Boc’s Queen Lady. Around the turn this lead pack went and at the finish line the first time around is where it would end for Libra. Gs Humongous and Boc’s Queen Lady pinched back the early lead and took over at the command presence on the front end. Libra was shuffled back, and was out of contention from that point on. Around the turn they went and more trouble behind ensued. Coming out smelling like a rose was the lead pair, but Boc’s Queen Lady was starting to show her stakes experience as she separated herself from the rest of the field as they headed down the backside. She was 4 lengths clear of her nearest competitor, GS Humongous, 5 lengths better than Rt Banana Foster, and 8 lengths better than Craigie Avatar. It wouldn’t take that long for those numbers to change. Queen Lady continued to breeze on the lead as the two closest greyhounds kept pace. The issue was with Craigie Avatar. She was not going to settle for fourth, and decided it was time to make a move, a big move, a huge move, and saw her catapult into contention by the far turn. Circling the chasing crowd, she exploded by the chasers and by the far turn she was just a half a length off the leader as they rounded the ben and set their sites on the wire. Here is where he true power was shown. She found another gear late and left Boc’s Queen Lady in the dust. Drawing away by 3 lengths at the finish line, she put everyone on notice that she is the best router at the racetrack. Queen Lady, a marathon distance winner, is not short and Avatar made her look that way in the final few strides. Lady had to settle for place as Rt Banana Foster held on for third. Critics Choice completed the superfecta in 4th. Rounding out the field was Lk’s Fanciful in 5th, Gs Humongous in 6th, Bos’s Libra in 7th, and Pat C Typhoon in 8th.

17hs-ALL5x4We also ran 3 consolation races on the card. One over 550 Yards, one over 660 yards, and one over 770 yards. The 550 race ran in the 5th as the top 4 competitors all finished with 2.5 lengths at the wire. Duke Rufus stole the early lead and held it to the stretch, but closers L’s Sum Dog, winner, and CBJ Coleman, place greyhounds, came from off the pace to run him down at the wire. She finished 3rd as Hey Hey Daddy finished 4th. The 770 race came in the 6th as the 24-1 shot, Buh By Drive made a big splash for the Crowe Kennel. Breaking close, Drive stalked the pace to the far turn, took over late, and held on at the wire for the slim win. Super C Amy came again after trouble at just missed in place. Early leader Good Luckchigger held on for third as Wai Lin never varied and completed the superfecta. The 660 race came in the 8th and was the only consolation to run faster than the finals. Like A boss was out fast early, game on the pace, took at a slim lead at the far turn, and ran off and hid in the stretch to win by 7 lengths over the field. Businessasusual closed from well back for place as Hustle It Upgirl and NB’s Parishilton finished off the show and 4th positions at the wire.

Congratulations to all the owners, breeders, trainers, kennel helpers, and everyone else connected with these fantastic greyhounds. Thanks for letting us watch them run! Here’s to a prosperous New Year for everyone in the greyhounds racing industry, from everyone here at bestbet Jacksonville.

What a way to kick off the new year! Great racing at one of the premier greyhound tracks in the country! Bestbet Jacksonville has got some great wagering opportunities for you this first week, and you could be seeing lots of green in your future if you can pick some winners. Let’s take a closer look at the feature races for this weekend and see if we can help you cash some tickets.

Friday evening January 5th, 2018

Race 7 – One of the fastest greyhounds at the racetrack should score here. L’s Sum Dog can with or without the early lead in any race. He is as fast as he wants to be, tonight he gets it done for the 5th time in 7 starts. Setting the pace should be the solid grade A, Ww Lemon Mint, but she is short late and will get caught once again. Other contenders include the fast closing back in grade A runner Kanes Bubba, Crowe has been hot the last couple weeks, and the solid grade A stalking threat CBJ Coleman. (7-4-3-6)

Race 10 – The hottest greyhound at the racetrack gets another go. Lk’s Black Gold has won 5 of 6, 10 of 16, and has been in the trifecta in 14 of those efforts. Dueling early with the best breaker here, AjW Coraline, it might be interesting to the turn, but after it turns into a one woman show. The posted well solid grade A, BGR My Girl, is no slouch herself with 4 top grade wins in 6 efforts. Late though all better be wary of the closer Craigie Javier. Coming from well off the back, he could content at the wire. (7-8-4-6)

Race 15 – Over to 660 for this one and we get a look at the pre-race favorite heading into the upcoming Orange Park Derby. Craigie Avatar is the best greyhound over 660 at the racetrack, and tonight she gets a good post too. She can break, stalk, close, and get the win, just like she did in the finals of the Holiday Distance Stakes. She has not missed the quiniela in 6 straight, and she has the 1 box here! Challenging here will be the red hot running Critic Choice. Winner of 3 of her last 4, she too has the chops to take home a W here. The late driving pup Mrl Back Pay will contend at the wire as well, and don’t sleep on the hot off a win early speeder Dutch Mustang. (1-8-5-3)

Saturday matinee January 6th, 2018

Race 7 – This evenly matched up race could go to anyone. Several greyhounds have the tools needed to get the win today, but only one will come out on top. Pat C Merlin is a posted-up grade A contender that is back over 550 and ready to pounce. This late runner should get it done in the stretch. Look for several greyhounds to have a chance to set the pace and contend on, or near, the early lead here. Boc’s Saralido is a solid grade A that can break on occasion. LK’s Best Friend might just be the best breaker, but is short on occasion late, and Se’s Kc Kid needs to forget the last effort and get back to in the money racing. Any could upset today if they find a clear way to the lead and get some help behind. (3-8-4-6)

Race 11 – Cal Smith has everything going for him in this effort, well except for one thing. He is well rested. He is coming off a win. He has great late speed, but he is in the WRONG box. Here I think he even overcome that and runs down everyone late to steal away another victory. Early it will be crowded with Ww Rowdy and Michael Scofield duking it out on the front end for the lead and a chance to steal away a win. Both should be caught late, but don’t forget about the solid grade A threat Perfect Pitch either. This greyhound has won 2 of 4 in grade A and is tough when she gets clear early on. (1-8-3-7)

Saturday evening January 6th, 2018

Race 4 – Back breaking and winning is that all out front running threat Roc A By Sunkist. Posted well again, she should be a big-time force at the start, and find a way to wire this field for the hat trick. It won’t be a calk walk mind you. The track win leader last year, Real Good Feelin, will be flying up late and she can outrun anyone when the mood suits her. Early Sunkist will have to deal with the big breaking hot off a win runner Pat C Hash Tag, and we all know what Bang Ludwig can do from the 8 box. If he shows up, he could be a long-gone winner tonight. (3-2-6-8)

Race 7 – What a great match up here. Loads on talent on tap and it could be a knock down drag out affair from the get go to the wire. We all know Hey Hey Daddy, the former bestbet Sprint Classic Winner, and we know what he can do, 4 wins in 6 races, but he is not alone here. Speedo Tuxedo has also posted 4 wins in 6 races, including 2 straight. Pat C Cozy also must be considered too. Not only for the grade climb back to grade A, but because of that RED blanket. She is a different girl with that red dress on. Looking to round out the race is the former flamer, BGR Benny Da Jet. Finding his mojo again, he should provide a late threat again tonight. (7-8-1-4)

Race 11 – The Holiday Sprint Champ is back at it again after a couple of rough trips around the racetrack. Coming off a win, and 4 in his last 6 races. Fix a Drink is a dynamic rising star at bestbet Jacksonville. The only thing that might stop him from winning here is the post position, but with all that late speed, he might be able to get home even with some trouble. Trying to stop him will be the stupendous closers, Pat C Gangsta, who is finally rounding back into form and Lee Raven, who has not missed the money in 6 straight. Easi Kane could get a look as well with back to back wins and an advantageous post position. (5-7-1-3)

Race 15 – Back to 660 again and the new comer gets the nod. Super pup Drink It Off looks like a natural over this distance and showing that in his last race with a hard driving win. With no early speed, he might even make the front end at the start. It could be a long chasing evening for the rest of this field. Solid grade a competitor Lee Bonafide should break slow and gain throughout again to challenge in this effort. There is a reason that she has 5 2nd in her last 6 races. Puppy Pat C Bona also gets noticed here with a pair of back to back wins in his last 3 efforts. Now up in A, he gets a chance at the big boys, and watch out for the ship in Tiger’s Eye too. Plenty of experience under his collar, and he is starting to get used to the racetrack. Coming off a win, he might be upset minded tonight. (6-8-2-3)

Sunday matinee January 7th, 2018

Race 11 – Another evenly matched up race with some familiar names thrown into the mix. Here post and early speed rule as Craigie Warlock gets the 1 box and should be clean sailing on the front end early on in this effort. Pushing the pace should be the solid grade A runner Boc’s Andross who has finished in the money in 5 of her last 6 races. The pace could be threatened even more if the, I’m tough if I’m close runner, Tmc’s Sweet Kiss decides to get out of the box and challenge today. Watch out for Dutch Doreen as well. That 8 box simply turns her into a different animal. She loves it out there and can break well and poste up some serious efforts. IE look back 4 starts. (1-5-3-8)

Orange Park Derby Round 1

We are starting the year off right here at bestbet Jacksonville with the 2018 edition of the Orange Park Derby. With $20,000 up for grabs, you know the competition is going to be fierce, and who know just who is going to come out on top. We have 40 greyhounds ready to take on the challenge and see just who the best of the best is over 660 yards at bestbet Jacksonville. Round one runs tonight, so let’s check out the race and see if we can get you cashing some tickets, as you cheer on your favorites, in the Orange Park Derby.

Round 1 of the 2018 Orange Park Derby

Monday evening January 15th, 2018

Race 4 – Sneaky pick here in the first race of the Derby. Pat C Merlin might have been flourishing over 550 yards, but he is no stranger to the longer distances. He made the finals of the 2017 bestbet Derby and didn’t miss the trifecta in any of those qualifying efforts. Here the solid A, breaks and wins again. Pushing the pace throughout will be the solid grade A Lee Bonafide from the rail. This will take full advantage of the post and give another all-out effort. Mrl Pay Back is a strong closer that will come up late to challenge and don’t forget about the hot and cold running factor Jack’s Jet Speed. If she is on, she could be upset minded tonight. (6-1-4-5)

Race 7 – Class ruling the day again in our selections. Lee Banshee is one of the faster, and more experienced, greyhounds running in the rounds, and the rail post will just aide his effort tonight. He has been running great, 5 money trips in a row, but is overdue for the top spot. Tonight, he gets it. Pressing the pace early should be the combination of the solid grade A converted sprinter, Pat C Typhoon, along with the red hot off a grade A win rising threat that is Rebel Fred. Everyone better be wary late as all out closer, Lk’s Rose Petal, will take no prisoners if she gets room early and is within striking distance in the stretch. (2-7-6-3)

Race 9 – Competitive field here in the ninth and it could go a lot of different ways at the wire. Several greyhounds have a chance to win this effort, it might just come down to who wants to show up and take the stake round. Craigie Javier is the pick I am going with. Javier is liking the new surroundings at 660, he seems to be made to run the route, and gets the rail to boot. Hot off a strong effort behind kennelmate Craigie Avatar, he wins this time around. Drink It Off has loads of talent for a pup, but has found trouble in his last couple of starts. He needs to break better to be effective tonight. Royal Clarion is a strong closer over the distance and could make a late run to challenge, and don’t sleep on Pat C Alex either. The times might not be that great, but the Pat C greyhounds always seem to run any distance and he could be a good under play on your tickets. (1-4-6-2)

Race 11 – Speed should be the determining factor in this race. RT Banana Foster has been a breaking machine over 660 as of late and has won 3 of her last 4 efforts. She is tough on top and should be able to beat this field to the front end from an almost midtrack post. Once there, she will need to dig in deep to beat this talented field. Threatening throughout should be the rising star from the Pat Collins kennel, Pat C Bona. This greyhound has taken well to 660, posted up 3 wins in 5 races to get to grade A, and has showed no signs of slowing down yet. If he is too close, too soon, he might be the one to beat late. Dutch Dalton is a strong threat when he is close early and it should be in this effort from a great post. Last time out from the 5, he won! Enough said. Best of the rest goes to Sorry Not Sorry. Big upside when she breaks, we just don’t know when that is. In case she does, she enters the mix. (3-4-5-8)

Race 15 – Capping off the evening we get the best 660 greyhound at the racetrack, Craigie Avatar. Winner of the recent Holiday 660 Stakes Race, Avatar is as fast as she wants to be late and can run down just about anyone in this stake. She can break on occasion too, and with the lead, she is unstoppable. Here she gets the 8 box and I expect nothing but dominance over this field. With 4 wins, and 6 quinielas, in 6 races, she is the one to beat. Challenging here will be the 2017 winner of this race, Dutch Casey. Casey is all about closing as well and has a solid grade A pedigree to go along with it. He has not seen the top spot in a while, so a better break would help here. Really, a late rally cry, and next best looks more the part tonight. Critics Choice is no slouch on the rail and might just be the front-runner in this effort. She is short late though and that might cost her in the end. She will be around, as she has not missed the money in 6 straight. Pat C Zz Top also gets a look. You never know when he is going to break, and you must love the post. Last time in blue, a monster win, just 2 starts ago. (8-7-1-2)

Round 2 will take place on Friday evening January 19th at bestbet Jacksonville. All 5 races will return as the greyhounds try and rack up the points, so that they can more on further in the stakes. Make your plans to join us online, or in person, at bestbet Jacksonville. I’ll see you at the races!

Pat Collins Shows Best in Round 1

Round 1 of the 2018 Orange Park Derby is in the books and we had a little bit of what was expected, and a little bit more of what was unexpected. Some favorites took home the top spot at the wire, but more longshots did the same thing in the other races in the round. Loads of talent on display, maybe that is why not everything went as planned. The biggest winner on the evening was the Pat Collins kennel as they took home wins in 2 of the 5 stakes rounds on the card.

Even though those two Pat Collins wins took place in round 1 of the stakes, they could have not been any more different. In the 4th race on the card, Pat C Merlin, burst out from the box, took over the early lead, and never looked back. Breezing around the over on top, he maintained his margin from start to finish and made it look easy at the wire. Pressing the leader, the entire way, was Jack’s Jet Speed in second as Pj Wigglengiggle gave a strong late running effort for third. Cbj Thunderbolt varied in in 4th.

The other winner for the Pat Collins Kennel was Pat C Bona in the 11th. Breaking slowly, Bona, found room around the early turn and came out behind the leaders at the first call. Boc’s Libra stole the front end and Dutch Dalton was in close quarters behind. Libra continued to lead all the way to the stretch, but that is where Bona was going to make a statement after a long hard drive to get into contention. Digging in deep Bona jettison the leader heading home and drew away for a 3-length victory at the wire. Libra settled for place as Dutch Dalton held off Tempo Cinch late for show.

The fastest trip, 37.69, and the biggest shocker came in the 15th race as Boc’s All I Got pulled off the stunning upset. Beating the box and getting her nose out first, Boc’s All I Got put herself in a good place to secure a win. Early she separated from the rest and that would be all she needed in this effort, well plus the favorites getting tangled up early behind her. She would take that early lead and sit on it all the way to the wire for the win. Chasing the pace the entire way was Critics Choice who held off the late charging Tiger’s Eye at the finish line to secure a place finish. Rounding out the superfecta in this one was the early pressing and overtaken threat that is Boc’s Queen Lady.

The other cold as ice favorite to come through on the card was Craigie Javier. After breaking just off the pace of the leader Pat C Alex at the start of the 9th race, Javier decided in the backside that it was time to flip the script and take over the lead in the far turn. Turning for him he was clearly ahead of the rest and coasted all the way to the finish line. Kudos to converted router Drink It Off for a huge race to get up into place. Another greyhound chasing early, Drink It Off made up a ton of ground in this effort to offer up a challenge to the winner at the wire. Early leader Pat C Alex held on for the easy show as the even chasing Scottish Rouge settled for 4th.

The last, but not least, winner on the card was another long shot. Like A Boss might have been 9-1, but he didn’t know he was not supposed to win the 7th race. Bombing out of the staring box, Like A Boss took over instant command of this round 1 race and never surrendered. He stole away a couple of lengths early on, maintained his margin throughout, and gave a determined effort for the win. Lee Banshee was pressing the pace throughout, but try as he might, he just couldn’t gain any ground on the leader. Pat C Typhoon gave a solid chase in 3rd as Dutch Mustang challenged early, then faded back late, but was still able to hold on for the final spot in the superfecta at the wire.

All five races will be retained for the second-round races that will take place on Friday evening, January 19th at bestbet Jacksonville.

Time for round 2 of the 2018 edition of the Orange Park Derby. All five races return for this round as the leaders will battle it out with the rest of the field for the points needed to move on in the stakes. Loads of talent still on tap and we will see if the Pat Collins kennel can keep up the dominance again in this round. Let’s take a closer look at the races for Friday evening at bestbet Jacksonville.

Round 2 of the 2018 Orange Park Derby

Friday evening January 19th, 2018

Race 7 – (SEVEN GREYHOUND RACE) Coming off a stupendous effort to win in round 1, you must like Pat C Bona’s chances again here. This pup can really fly in the open and can get it done from the lead or from off the pace. The post will not hurt this effort. Look for him to have another great showing tonight. Pushing the leader, the entire way should be the other converted router Drink It Off. Getting back on track in round 2, Drink It Off should make strides again tonight from a favorable post position. Dutch Dalton also did well in round 1, but couldn’t keep up with Bona last time and won’t be able to again here. Look for him to be an early threat, and late keep an eye out for Mrl Pay Back. This fantastic closer almost found the money after double trouble in round 1. If she clears closer early, she too could have a shot at the top spot at the wire. (7-8-3-6)

Race 9 – Forget the last race and get back on board with the pre-race favorite. Craigie Avatar was just a few steps from the early leaders in round one until she has knocked wide and back out of contention. She rallied the best she could, but finished out of the top four spots at the wire. She needs a big effort here to get back on track, and score some points to move on to the next round. Before that effort, 4 of 6 wins and 6 straight in the quiniela. Watch her wake up tonight! Pushing the pace should be the first- round winner Pat C Merlin and the always tough factor that is Critics Choice. Both could steal away the win here, and could get it done with some help behind them. Everyone needs to not forget about Easi Turner either. A bit of a hot and cold runner, you never know what you are going to get, but if the faucet is warm, he might just make his presence know at the wire. (6-5-4-8)

Race 10 – Big second round duel here between tow first-round winners. Both Craigie Javier and Boc’s All I Got have early speed and won their races on the front end. Both have limited experience over the distance and either could see the lead tonight. So, what we really have is the need to figure out just who wants it more. That could be problematic as well. You must pick someone though, so post separates them for me. Boc’s All I Got loves the one box and has flourished from the red and blue boxes in the past. That gets her just a nose better out in front all the way to the wire. Javier will challenge but just miss late for the W. Both need to worry about the always closing monster that is Lk’s Rose Petal. She can come at any distance, remember she broke the track record over 990, and even though he missed in the first round, Pat C ZZ Top could factor from a good post if he can break. (1-6-8-2)

Race 11 – Back on track time for a lot of greyhounds in the stakes, but maybe none more that Rt Banana Foster. Winner of 3 of her last 5 starts, she was poised to make some noise in round 1, but didn’t break sharp and found trouble. Here she will have room outside and I expect her to rebound with a strong front running effort. Pushing the back should be the rail contingent of Boc’s Libra and Boc’s Queen Lady. Both can come out running and challenge early, and the posts will make both a much tougher out in this effort. Both are around the pace in almost every race, and if Foster sits in the box, either one of them could pull off the win in this effort. Lurking is the Orange Park Derby winner in 2017. After a troughed up out of the money finish in round 1, he will be on a mission tonight and it could spell bad news for the early speed trio. Casey is a closer, a dam good one, and will be showing that off late in this effort. If he can overcome the tough 5 box, and get around in contention early, he might just be able to run everyone down late and pull off the upset. (6-2-1-5)

Race 15 – We do have a first-round winner in this effort, but I think it might be hard to repeat from an unfavorable post position. Here I like the greyhounds that ran all around the win in round number one, but failed to get the job done. Tonight, the script changes as Lee Banshee gets up for the win. Well overdue for the top spot, Lee Banshee gave a great hard trying effort in round one for the same post that she has in round two. I expect her to break closer, threaten throughout, and come home a winner at the wire. Also in contention will be Pat C Typhoon. The early leader is a bit short over the added distance and should be again tonight. Late you know that Jack’s Jet Speed will be revving up the engines and making a late thrust to try and steal away the victory, and just because the post is tough, don’t write off Like A Boss either. A winner in round 1, he broke extremely well and proved tough on top. The 5 box is not the 1 box, so he will need a similar box beating break to upset again in this effort. (2-7-4-5)

The field will be trimmed down for the 3rd round as the top 4 races of greyhounds will move on to compete on Monday evening January 22nd at bestbet Jacksonville.

Double J Doubles Down

Round 2 of the 2018 Orange park Derby might have been a bit more chalkish than round 1, but still only had one repeat winner. The points are getting spread out all over the place, and several of the big names that missed in round 1, rebounded well in round 2. Double J led the way with a pair of wins in the 5 races, and threw in another from the Jim Blanchard kennel, to give the owner 3 scores in 5 attempts. The other winners came from the Lester Raines Kennel and the Falcon Kennel.

Leading the way for Double J was the effort put up by Drink It Off in the 7th race on the card. Breaking with the leaders from the outside. Drink it off rushed to take control down the frontside the first time around and never even though about looking back. He raced off alone on the lead and stretched his margin to 7 lengths at one point. At the wire he was 4 lengths better than the rest in a blistering 37.59 second romp! Chasing the pace, and even making up a bit of ground late was early leader Tiger’s Eye in second. Third went to the steady running threat, and first round winner, Pat C Bona and Cm’s Bruno completed the superfecta.

The other Double J Winner came in the 15th race as the vaulted marathoner, Royal Clarion, broke close and gave an all-out late effort to score at the finish line. Beating the box and stealing a ton early over the rest of the field was Pat C Typhoon. Clearly in control far 99% of this race, everyone early though it was long over, but Clarion didn’t get the message. Chipping away at a 6-length lead down the backside, Clarion narrowed the margin to just 2 lengths heading for home. Turning on those jets near the wire, Clarion stole away the win at the wire. All out effort on the lead, but Typhoon was just headed out at the finish line. (Great race, winning trip, just couldn’t hold on) Third was the steady gaining threat Tempo Cinch and first round winner Like A Boss was even in the superfecta throughout.

Blanchard’s other winner came in a very interesting 11th race. Loads of speed up front, people jockeying for position, and then in the end the closers came a running. Bursting out fast once again was Boc’s All I Got. Seizing the front end, he took to the lead, but by the escape everyone was around. Boc’s Queen Lady had gone by him on the inside and Pat C Alex dove to the rail, cut him off, and the first-round winner was taken out of this one. Down the backside Boc’s Queen Lady maintained a slim margin and as they turned for home, the chasers were fading, and new round of challengers were coming at the leader. Unfazed by all the action behind her, Ironhound stakes winner, Boc’s Queen Lady, just continued a took home the win at the wire. The making up ground throughout, Businessasusual, was a hard trying second just a length off the win at the wire. The 2017 Orange Park Derby winner, Dutch Casey finally found some room out wide in the stretch and put on a show in the final few steps for show as he over took 3 greyhounds in a matter of seconds. Rt Banana Foster held best late for the early threats and finished off the superfecta in this effort.

Not to be outdone, Craigie Javier from the Lester Raines, made the most of his opportunity in the most highly contested race on the card. At the start in the 10th race, first round winner, Boc’s All I Got, exploded to the front end, and after Pat C Zz Top hit the rail, bounced off, and collided with several of the chasers, All I Got was in complete control. The problem was that Craigie Javier was wide around the rest and cleared second coming up the front stretch. By the escape turn that margin had decreased considerably as this leading down locked up in a head to head battle coming down the backside. Entering the fat turn Javier took over and put a length or more on the early leader as they turned for home. Boc’s All I Got could have just thrown in the towel, but that was not the thought on this occasion. Finding that stride again, All I Got, put in the work and came again at the leader and at the wire it was too close to call. A photo would have to separate them, but in the end, Javier held on by a nose over Boc’s All I Got. Third was Pat C Zz Top. After hitting the rail, colliding with the rest of the field, Zz Top put on the dancing shoes and just kept on booging on home. Flying up late, he too gave a winning trip and just missed the win by a neck on the wide side. Scottish Rough ran a steady effort throughout and never varied from the superfecta.

The final stakes round came in race number 9 and it was another race that would have to be decided by a photo finish. Popping the lid and coming out on top early by Critics Choice, who like several of the other breakers on the card, drove the rabbit away from the field at the first call. Choice was clear by 5 lengths over the rest, and she would need every inch of that space at the wire. Around the turn and down the backside she went as Pat C Merlin and Easi Turner Chased, but they all needed to be wary as Craigie Avatar was finding room on the rail and picking up lengths with every stride. By the far turn the lead had shrunk in half, as Merlin held on 2 second after Avatar got blocked and had to reroute her run heading home. Coming around the final turn it was anyone’s race. 4 Greyhound all within a length or so as they dug in deep and approached the finish line. Critics Choice was going nowhere, and the rest were doing their best to take her down. Avatar was flying and trying to steal the win, but after being blocked and changing course once again, she ran out of time and was just a half a length short of the winner Critics Choice at the wire. Threat throughout Pat C Merlin settled for third, just a length behind, and the always there threat Easi Turner completed the superfecta just a length and a half off the winner.

The third round of the 2018 Orange park Derby takes place on Monday evening January 22nd at bestbet Jacksonville. Only 4 races will remain, so the field just got tougher and the points just got harder to come by. The third round of the 2018 Orange park Derby is here and now that the field has been trimmed down, the action is going to heat up. Only the best of the best remain and each will be vying for points, and a chance to move on, in the Orange Park Derby. Plenty of talent is still in the mix, and with only one repeat winner, almost everyone still has a shot. Let’s take a closer look at the races for Monday evening and see if we can get you cashing some tickets tonight.

Round 3 of the 2018 Orange Park Derby

Monday evening January 22nd, 2018

Race 7 – Tough race here as we get two winners in round 2 and one from round 1 all matching up. Clearly, they have a class edge over the rest of this field, but what order do you like them in?? I like the greyhound that just missed in round 2 by a nose, after winning in round 1. Boc’s All I Got seems to be the real deal. She can break, she can lead, she can hold on, and she can even come again like she did last time out. I expect her to see the front end early and dominate. Pushing the pace from a great inside post will be a second-round winner, Critics Choice. This solid grade A threat is will around throughout and challenging the leader all the way to the wire. Royal Clarion got back on track last time out too with a win. Better over 770, she is a closer at 660, but will need to break well again to have a chance to win. The post helps, she had the 3-box last time out in her win and should factor well in the stretch. Don’t forget about Pat C Zz Top either. This greyhound came from a mile back in round 2, after early trouble, and just missed running down several greyhounds by a neck. If he gets loose early, WATCH OUT! (7-2-3-5)

Race 9 – After a rough trip in round 1, Craigie Avatar needed a big effort in round 2 and got one as she missed winning by just a half a length. Now with some breathing room, she needs a W here to get back into the mix at the top of the point totals. Helping her is the box. She will be close early and dominate late for the win. Pushing the pace should be the converted sprinter Pat C Typhoon. This greyhound just missed last time out and stole a huge lead with a superior break in his second-round effort. Typhoo also gets a good box to break from and should be a force throughout on the front end again in this effort. Look for her to get edged out late and settle for next best for the second trip in a row. Pat C Merlin also has some early speed and won his first-round race in the stakes. The midtrack post is a great place for him to start from as well, and if he can get loose early on, he too might have a shot at taking home a win at the wire tonight. He has all the tools to wire the field, that is if he can hold off Avatar in the stretch. Keep and eye out for Boc’s Queen Lady as well. She always runs tough in the stakes round and can compete at any distance. She might be a bit short at times over the longer ones, but you never know when she is just going to dig in deep and stretch it to the wire for the win. (i.e. look at her last start) The post is different here though, so she need a big break to get things done tonight. (1-2-6-4)

Race 11 – No doubt about who to pick in this effort, Craigie Javier. Winner of back to back races in the rounds, Javier is the only undefeated greyhound remaining. No matter if you win by 1 or 1 thousand, a win is a win is a win. Determination is the key to his success so far as he has outlasted the rest at the finish line in both of those stakes efforts. Posted well again here, I expect for him to break well and find a way to hold on at the wire for the hat-trick. Tiger’s Eye might just be the surprise of the stakes so far. The ship-in from Birmingham has not missed a beat over 660 and has faired well in both rounds of the stakes so far. Closing hard in each of those efforts, she has really started to get noticed by the gamblers. Tonight, the post might try her patients, but with a strong late close, she should be around at the wire once again. Pushing the early pace, and stalking the leader, should be RT Banana Foster. Clearly, she has not broke like she can in the rounds so far, and frankly she is running out of time to do so. If she wants to move on in the stakes, this greyhound needs to wake up. Foster can run and beat the best of them at the racetrack over 660, she just needs to get out of the starting box. Just look back a bit and you will see 3 wins in a row in grade A. She has the potential, time to see if she has the desire to break and win a round tonight. Finally, in the money is Scottish Rouge. This greyhound is a steady pace runner that varies little in his effort. What you see early, is what you get, and that is not such a bad thing. He has finished 4th in both rounds of the stakes so far and you should be able to expect more of the same in this race tonight. (2-6-3-1)

Race 15 – Hot hand is what the calling card of this race is as super pup, Drink It Off, might just have figured it all out in his last effort. Breaking close and taking over early, he coasted all the way around the racetrack to put up the best effort in the stake so far at 37.59 seconds. No better post to break from here than the 1, so let’s see this guy hit the lid again and dominate in back to back races. Pat C Bona must also be considered in this effort. A winner in round 1, he followed that up with a strong 3rd in round two and get a better post tor beak from here in this effort. He can run with or without the early lead and can come on late to challenge if need be. He has all the tools and could take home another win if he decides to hit the lid in this effort. Lee Banshee is well overdue for the top spot and could take it here tonight if he can remember to break. He is always around in his races, you know in the money 5 of his last 6 starts and is good at pressuring the leaders in those races all the way to the wire. Here he is a long way from the rail and he will have to work to get there in this effort. Breaking is the key to his success in this effort. Even if he can’t get it done, he should be a quality play under on your tickets. Last but not least is the rebounding Businessasusual. The runner-up in the 2017 Orange Park Derby, this closer can come and get almost anyone at the racetrack when he wants to. Here the outside post could hinder his efforts if he encounters trouble early on. No doubt the second half of the race will be better than the first, but he too could upset if the planets are aligned tonight. Help will be needed, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities for him to get it done. (1-3-6-7)

The field will be trimmed down again as 3 races will remain in the semi-finals to determined just who will move on to the elite eight in the finals of the 2018 Orange Park Derby. Join us on Saturday evening January 27th to see who gets in and who is out.

Craigie Power in Round 3

Three rounds of the 2018 Orange Park Derby are in the books and the Craigie power duo showed up in full force to take home wins for the Lester Raines Kennel. Not only did they score the top spot at the wire, both did it in different, but dramatic fashion. Craigie Javier left everyone wondering early in the 11th race as he sat in the box, rounded the turn, and spotted the leaders 10 lengths early back in 5th place at the first call. It looked like it was lights out for him and the win streak in the rounds was coming to an end, but not so fast my friend. Tiger’s Eye was pushing the pace with Pat C Alex on his heels as they went to the escape turn. Pat C Alex took over the front end down the backside as Tiger’s Eye was chasing in second. Javier had found some room on the rail and was making up ground on the leaders as they approached the far turn. As they went thru the turn, Alex’s lead had shrunk, and Javier was on a mission for the lead, but Tiger’s Eye was not out of it just yet. Coming down the stretch it was a three-way battle for the lead, for the win, and it would take photo to separate them at the wire. When the dust settled, Javier came out a nose best at the wire and stretched his undefeated streak in the rounds to 3 straight races. Pat C Alex gave everything he had, but it just wasn’t enough to win here. Kudos to early leader Tiger’s Eye as well who finished a neck short of a bit time W in this effort. Completing the superfecta was the fast closing Jack’s Jet Speed.

The other winner, Craigie Avatar, also posted up a strong win in race 9, but it was a sharp contrast to the one that Javier ran. This all out closer, BROKE TO THE LEAD, from the one box and the rest was history. Stretching out her lead throughout, she never looked back, was never challenged, and laid waste to this field of stakes competitors. She ended up ALL ALONE at the wire as she won by 9 full lengths in a blistering time of 37.52 seconds. After a roughed-up race in round 1, and a just miss in round 2, Avatar needed this effort and didn’t disappoint her backers. This was a statement race to solidify her standing as one of the favorites to beat for the title. Next best went to Temp Cinch who moved up some and outlasted Pat C Typhoo at the finish line for the 2nd spot in the ranks. Typhoo closed some late and just missed out of place and had to settle for show at the wire, as Boc’s Queen Lady rounded out the superfecta after she encountered double trouble in this race.

The Blanchard Kennel’s Like A Boss posted up his second win in 3 rounds with a strong front running effort in the 15th race. After breaking on top and taking the early lead, he was pressed hard by former round winner Drink It Off. This duo went around the racetrack jockeying for position near the lead until the far turn. Businessasusual went to the rail and shuffled Drink it off back out of contention, but that didn’t get Like A Boss any further away from losing this effort. The chasing Pat C Bona was midtrack around that trouble and came flying after the leader in the stretch. The longer lead, turned into a shorter one at the wire, but no matter how hard they tried, or who was coming on, Like A Boss would not surrender in this effort. Crossing ahead of the rest, he scored 19 points for himself once again in the Orange Park Derby. Pat C Bona ran a huge race but it was only good enough for place. Businessasusual chased close the whole way, and even after being clipped in the far turn, still managed to hold on for show. Dutch Dalton, who was blocked early, make up ground throughout and completed the superfecta at the wire.

Another two-time winner happened in the 7th race as Critics Choice popped the box and gave a determined effort to hold on late for back to back wins. At the break, it was really a two-greyhound race as Critics Choice stormed to the lead with Boc’s All I Got in her hip pocket well ahead of the rest. At the early turn, the field ran together and collided as the front running duo separated themselves even more from the rest of the pack. The only greyhound coming out of the mess partially unscathed was Cbj Thunderbolt. Down the frontside they would go with Critics Choice in the lead and Boc’s All I Got shadowing her every move. These all-out speeders battled down the backside, around the far turn, and down the stretch. Choice clinging to a lead and All I Got living up to her name with every step she took toward the wire. Both did all they could do for the win, but on this occasion, Critics Choice was a just a bit better. A winning trip by All I Got, but she had to settle for place. A distance show was Cbj Thunderbolt as he held off a late charge by Pat C Zz Top at the finish line.

The semi-finals of the 2018 Orange Park Derby will take place on Saturday evening January 27th, 2018 at bestbet Jacksonville.
